Spring Exhibition night is this Thursday, April 2^nd from 6pm to 8pm.  Come support the students as they show off the great projects they have created this semester and spend some time exploring classes across campus!

Spring Break – April 4^th to 13^th

Spring Break is around the corner.  Students have next week off of school, and will return on Tuesday, April 14th.

College Week – April 14^th to 17^th

The first week back from Spring Break is College Week here at Da Vinci Communications and Da Vinci Design.  We have a valuable week of activities in school, out of school and in advisory, organized and run by Brittany and a group of teachers:

Wednesday, April 15^th: College field trips (9^th grade to Cal State LA, 10^th grade to LMU)

Wednesday, April 15^th, 6pm: College Knowledge Night – all parents and students are invited to a series of many workshops put on in both English and Spanish

Thursday, April 16th: Practice ACT (10^th grade only)  ***This is the corrected date – it is Thursday***

Friday, April 17th: College themed advisory

Family Association Meeting – April 21^st at 6pm

The next Family Association Meeting is Tuesday, April 21^st at 6pm.  This Family Association Meeting will include a presentation by Kim Merritt and focus on the 5^th year and the plan for early college classes and the potential for students to earn an IGETC certificate or an Associates’ degree and what that means for college applications in either two or three years.

State of the Schools – Today

Matt Wunder, CEO of Da Vinci Schools, will be presenting the yearly State of the Schools address this evening at the Forum at the Da Vinci Science campus.  Come join other Da Vinci community members to hear about the present and future of Da Vinci, including future facilities and curriculum plans.

Traffic Advisory – Pickup on Thursday, 3/19

A heads up – the LA County Sheriff has informed us that there will be much more traffic than usual on Isis Avenue tomorrow, Thursday 3/19, at pick-up time (3:55 pm) due to filming that is taking place on the street. There will be many large trucks/trailers on Isis Avenue. Please plan accordingly and drive safely!

ATLAS Domestic Travel Meeting

On Thursday, March 19th at 5:00 p.m. in Room 206 (Ms. Buckner’s room), the ATLAS team will be holding an Informational Meeting for domestic trips to San Francisco and Washington D.C.  The team is trying to get large enough groups so that they can customize the tour to see some colleges while visiting.  If parents/students enroll by March 30th, they will receive a $50 discount.  The other benefit of securing your spot now is that monthly payments will be lower since there will be a longer runway! Want to Interview Potential 11^th Grade Teachers?

We will be holding an interview symposium next Thursday, 3/26 here at DVC.  If you are interested in interviewing the teaching candidates (this would mean coming to DVC for a 2 hour time slot in the morning or afternoon), please send Nathan an email: nbarrymore@davincischools.org.  It is extremely valuable to our process to have parents give their input on potential teachers, so if you have a couple hours next Thursday and are interested, let us know.  We have interview questions and a format set up, so no experience is needed at all.

And finally, congratulations to all of the 9th grade students for presenting their songs – that takes a huge amount of self confidence and bravery to put yourself out to your school as such, and congratulations to the 10th graders on completing the CAHSEE: state requirement checked off.

SLC Week – Minimum Days

Student Led Conferences (SLCs) are coming up next week.  Next Monday 3/9 through Thursday 3/12 students will have class from 9:00am to 1:30pm, with conferences held after school.  Next Friday is a full day from 10:00am to 3:55pm.

Casino Royale Dance

The Casino Royale Semi-Formal Dance is this Thursday from 7pm to 10pm – tickets on sale all of this week at lunch!  There is no school for students this Friday, 3/6 after the night of the dance.
