DVIA Volunteer Opportunity

DVIA Campus Transformation

DVC Community, DVIA is looking to transform their campus front from a dirt field into a creative and beautiful front wall and just like our Green Spaces project required a ton of work, they are looking for volunteers to help!  (And you can get your volunteer hours here as well.)

New Plans

They are looking to build seating, use less water to maintain the yard, and all of this is possible, but they need volunteers!

Please join DVIA on Saturday, May 2nd for our Sharefest Family Work Day and help make that dream a reality!  We need 50 volunteers to sign up this weekend or we may have to cancel the event, which would be really unfortunate!  Especially since our front yard now looks like this:

We have some great projects happening, including:

  • Creating a garden and outdoor seating area with drought tolerant plants in front of the school (that’s what the post structures in front of campus are for and that’s why the grass is gone)
  • Creating a really exciting mural in front of campus to spruce things up!  Your family can be part of creating the mural!
  • Installing a shed for Makerspace materials
  • Helping with general campus cleanup and revitalization

We’ve already got support from Sharefest, Balfour Beatty Construction, various landscaping companies and designers, including DVIA parent Gia Meidav and artist and parent PeQue Brown.  Now we need you and your entire family (kids too!) to help us make it a reality.

Please RSVP so we know we have enough people and consider donating food using this link.  Thank you!

Summer School and Family Association (Year 13 Info) Tonight!

Summer School/Family Association Meetings Today

A reminder that we are having a summer school info drop-in meeting today between 4pm and 6pm (come anytime in that window), as well as a Family Association meeting focusing on Year 13 at 6pm, directly after the summer school meeting.  Both meetings are in Noel Ingram’s room.

College Week Recap

20150415_115859 20150415_131843

Thank you to our counselor Brittany Goodacre and the whole staff for an excellent College Week.  College Knowledge night had a wide variety of workshops, every student was able to go to a college visit, and our 10th grade students took a practice ACT and will now be able to see which college admissions test they are better prepared to take.  Scores for the ACT will be given back in school as soon as we get the scores back, sometime in the next couple weeks.  This week we are continuing the college theme in advisory with an overview of the different types of colleges students may be applying for after high school.

Summer School Info Meeting and Family Association Meeting – Tuesday 4/21

April 17, 2015 by Office

Summer School Meeting – Tuesday 4pm, Noel’s Room

Today at the end of the day, all students who have incomplete grades who we are recommending for summer school received a letter about this info meeting.  If your child did not receive that letter and they have no incomplete grades, this announcement does not apply to you.

Da Vinci Communications is offering free summer school for students to make up classes that a student has gotten an “I/F” in during the school year, or has not taken the course due to transferring to Da Vinci Communications from another high school. For those students, we are having a mandatory drop-in info meeting April 21, 2015 from 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm.

In the event that you cannot attend the meeting, you can contact Nathan Barrymore to schedule another meeting for a future date.

Family Association Meeting: Year 13 – Tuesday 6pm, Noel’s Room

We will be having a family association meeting Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm with two wonderful topics:

  1. Year 13: come learn what is being planned now and what our vision is for 2017 (when DVC will have its first group of year 13 students), featuring Kim Merritt!
  2. Officer positions: we will have officer positions open for the 2015-16 school year. If you are interested in being the president, vice president or secretary of the family association please come by to learn more.

College Knowledge Night Survey

Thank you to everyone who attended College Knowledge Night, thank you to all of the presenters and an even bigger thank you to Brittany and KGB, who organized the entire night.  If you attended, please fill out this survey so we can make next year’s event even more tailored to your desires: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1v1hwUip8ONb2wYx61CwpEL2QVeKMHjnpEO6hLXXIo4U/viewform?c=0&w=1

Volunteer Opportunity – Tomorrow (Saturday)

Enrollment is looking for a few students to volunteer this Saturday, 4/18, at Registration Day in the Forum at Science.  There will be a morning shift and an afternoon shift (8:30-11:30am and 11:30-2pm) to help with crowd control and directing people.  Students would be working the lineup outside.  If you would like to show up for either shift, just come on by.

Teaching Candidate Interviews

April 14, 2015 by Office

Want to Interview Potential 11th Grade Teachers?

We have two upcoming interview symposiums, and would love parent input on the candidates.  If you are interested in interviewing the candidates in either of the following symposiums (this would mean coming to DVC for a 2 hour time slot in the morning or afternoon), please send Nathan an email: nbarrymore@davincischools.org.

  • This Thursday, April 16th: Counseling symposium (it is possible, though not guaranteed, that we will be hiring a second counselor a couple years early if we are able to secure a Career Pathways Grant we have applied for)
  • Next Thursday, April 23rd: Teaching symposium, featuring candidates for the 11th grade here at DVC

If you are interested in either date, just let Nathan know.

And don’t forget . . .

College Knowledge Night is tomorrow, Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm!
