Green Rooms

Attention parents! We are requesting volunteers to supervise Green Rooms during Presentations of Learning. We need at least one parent per room per grade level from the hours of 8am to 12 noon from May 27 through June 4. Even if you can do only 1 or 2 hours, that would be greatly appreciated! New Family BBQ – Friday 4pm to 6pm

We will be welcoming all new DVC and DVD incoming 9^th graders and their families with a joint BBQ this Friday out in the back of campus by the DVC classrooms.  All incoming DVC 9^th graders and invited and their families are encouraged to join!  If you would like to bring any snacks or drinks for our new families or help out the day of, please just email Nathan: nbarrymore@davincischools.org

Want a free cup of coffee in the morning next Tuesday?  All you have to do is put up with hanging out with Nathan anytime from 8am to 9am this coming Tuesday.  Come with any questions or items to discuss – there is no agenda, and the conversation will go wherever people desire.

Summer SAT Program

Current 10th graders only – are you interested in a Summer SAT Prep course?  Two Da Vinci Design senior teachers will be offering it up this summer.  The course will run from July 13-30 from 8:30-11:30, on Mon-Thurs only. The only cost is $25 for the cost of the SAT prep book, which you get to keep.  Space is limited, so turn in your room as soon as possible, and if we are oversubscribed we will select spaces randomly.  Hand in the registration form to Jackie by May 14^th.

Summer School

If you still need to sign up for summer school there is still time.  We are offering English 9, English 10, Communications 1 and 2, physics, introduction to engineering design and all math courses.  You can sign up using the form below and hand it in to Brittany (or Jackie or Nathan).  We are recommending summer school for any student who has received an “I” on their report card, and making it optional for any transfer students who would like to take physics over the summer to make their transcript more competitive for college applications.

POLs

POLs are coming in just 3 weeks! We will be running our POL schedule from May 27^th through June 4^th, with school running from 8am to 12pm.  The last day of school is June 5^th, and that will be a normal Friday schedule (10am to 3:55pm).

We will also be looking for volunteers to cover green rooms during POLs – sign-ups coming soon.

Author Arts Talk This Sunday

El Segundo Museum of Art

Sunday 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Cornelia Funke, best selling children’s and Young Adult author (Inkheart, Thief Lord,  Dragon Rider and more), and named one of TIME Magazine’s Top 100 Most Influential People, will be back here discussing her collaboration with Mirada Studios, the production company called Purveyors of Storytelling co-founded by director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hell Boy) and responsible for 2014’s most watched music video (Katy Perry’s Dark Horse).  She will be joined by Head of Transmedia at Mirada, Andy Merkin, and the two will discuss their creative career trajectories and incredible collaboration.

Rayman Arts Program (Saturdays in the Fall)

Ryman Arts offers professional studio art classes with college and career guidance, free of charge, to talented high school students who want to pursue a future in the arts. Students are challenged with rigorous drawing and painting classes and mentored by working artist.

The Ryman Arts program provides 3 ½-hour classes at California State University, Fullerton on Saturdays and Otis College of Art and Design on Sundays for a 12-week session in Spring and Fall. The program includes discussions with visiting artist, drawing field museum field trips and college planning workshops. Each accepted student receives a full scholarship that covers the cost of instruction, art supplies, field trips and public transportation reimbursement.
