Summer Coursework and Advancement Opportunities

June 11, 2015 by Office

We hope that everyone has had a wonderful first few days of summer.  As you relax, perhaps work your first job, or see family over the next couple months there are various ways in which you can master additional content and earn credits over the summer.  Here is a quick outline of what summer credit/advancement options are available:

Summer School

If you submitted a summer school sign-up form, you have been accepted, so just show up!  Summer school signups have been completed and we will see everyone who signed up over at Da Vinci Science’s campus this coming Monday June 15th (or if you signed up for session 2, we’ll see you Monday July 6).  Please drop off students in the Dana Parking Lot and enter through the gate that connects the Dana Parking Lot to the Da Vinci Science Campus.

Math and ALEKS Progress

Every student received a sheet of paper outlining the ways in which students can raise their grades from last semester or advance to the next level of math over the summer.  If you want to advance to the next math level make sure you look at the sheet of paper outlining where you have to get to in order to start the year in the next cohort of students.

Expired Accounts

We know that some students’ ALEKS accounts are set to expire today.  We have renewed those accounts with ALEKS, but it may take them another couple days to active them.  If you lose access to ALEKS this weekend, do not worry, it will be active again in the next couple days with no lost progress.

Rosetta Stone and Foreign Language

All students also received a sheet of paper describing how they can work over the summer to increase their grade or move ahead a level in foreign language.  Students can work on Rosetta Stone and at the beginning of the upcoming school year we will adjust grades or even add credit for a summer course if a whole new level was completed.  See the foreign language sheet for details.

Report Cards, Service Hours, Teacher BBQ

June 7, 2015 by Office

Congratulations to all students for finishing a wonderful year 2 of DVC.  Full end of year update coming soon, but first a couple quick announcements:

Service Hours Opportunity Tomorrow (Monday)

If you would like to help Nathand Carter (DVD Senior) beautify campus to prepare for next year, come by tomorrow.  The project will be going on from 8am to 4pm, and you can contact Nathand for details: 310.869.1285.  This is a great chance to get those service hours for Advisory credit before summer begins.

Report Cards

Report cards will be printed Tuesday and sent out Wednesday of this week.  Look for them to arrive in your mailboxes late this week or early next week.

Teacher BBQ Donations

Parents – thank you for all of your time, encouragement and thoughtful involvement this year filled with many incredible experiences for both the students and the teachers. As the year ends for students, teachers still have a few more days to close out the year, ending with a BBQ on Tuesday. And this is where you can help us.

We have organized a BBQ for teachers on Tuesday, June 9th, to celebrate having submitted grades and the final wrap-ups of the 2014-2015 school year. If you’d like to contribute something, please sign up here: http://goo.gl/1T6Ypk

Thank you so much in advance and we look forward to seeing you next year on August 18th!

Last Week!

June 1, 2015 by Office

Students are wrapping up their year and POLs are concluding, so that must mean we are in the last week of school.  Students have grown so much in their ability to prepare, practice and present in the past year (or two, for our sophomores), and it is so clear in their presentations.  We are extremely proud of what they have accomplished this year.

Our last day of school is Friday.  We will be running our POL schedule Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  If students are not passing any of their classes, they should be staying on campus and working on missing assignments and checking in with teachers about how they can improve their grades.  They have also had this long stretch of POLs to work on their Rosetta Stone progress to improve their Spanish or foreign language grade.

Report cards will be printed and sent out next Tuesday, so you can expect them to be delivered late next week.

This Friday we will run a normal Friday schedule from 10am to 3:55pm.  It will be a great day for students to take a breath and reflect on the year with their teachers and classmates.
