Parent Interviews for Teaching Candidates

We will be having our first full teaching candidate symposium on Tuesday, February 9^th. We are looking for parent volunteers to interview teachers that day. There will be two sessions, and we would love to have 2 to 4 parents at each session. No experience is needed. We have prepared questions for you to fall back on, but we often find that the interviews become less structured and more like conversations, which is great. If you are interested in either session (or both), please send Nathan an email!

Teaching Candidate Interview – Thursday!

We are starting the hiring process for next year’s 12^th grade teaching team. When we interview teaching candidates, we always include an interview by parents and teachers. If you are interested in being a part of the interview team, just send Nathan an email: nbarrymore [at] davincischools.org. No experience is needed, and your input is much appreciated.

Our first interview day will have just 1 candidate, and will be this Thursday, January 28^th at 9:30am. It will last around 20 minutes. Email Nathan if you are interested in participating.

We will have our first full symposium in early February, and for that day we will have a morning and afternoon session that will each run over two hours and include around 4 candidates. More details and times will be coming soon, but feel free to email Nathan whenever if you are interested in these longer days as well.

Our family association meeting will be Tuesady (tomorrow) at 5pm. We are pushing the time up to accommodate all freshman parents who would also like to attend the Freshman College Night at 5:30pm.

Field Trips – Arrive early on 2/10 (and 2/1 for juniors)!

11^th grade college tours

On Monday, February 1 at 6:45am, students will be touring UCSB and CSU, Channel Island. Students should arrive to school by 6:45 a.m. because the bus will depart from DVC at 7:00 a.m. and will return no later than 4:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, February 10 at 7:45am, students will be touring UCLA with a special tour guide (Donald). Students will take the culver city bus #6 from DVC to UCLA (only one bus). We will depart from DVC at 8:00 a.m. and will return by 3:00 p.m.

10^th grade tour

On Wednesday, February 10 at 8:15am, students will be touring UCI and CSU, Fullerton. Students should arrive to school by 8:15 a.m. because the bus will depart by 8:30 a.m. The students will return by 3:55 p.m.

9^th grade tour

On Wednesday, February 10 at 8:15am, students will be touring Cal Poly Pomona and Claremont McKenna. Students should arrive to school by 8:15 a.m. because the bus will depart by 8:30 a.m. The students will return by 3:55 p.m.

Congratulations to everyone on a great first week of the semester. Students are already gathering sources and researching for their newspaper articles, designing windmills, studying ancient civilizations and learning Photoshop. Here is next week’s schedule, and a summer opportunity for anyone interested in applying.

College trips are coming up in a couple weeks – keep those on your calendar. 11th grade – we will have a very early start time (perhaps in the 7:00 range) on February 1st so you can get to Santa Barbara and Channel Islands in one day!
