Journalism, led by Adam Eynon, is one of our brand new pathway courses we are offering students this year. The Journalism team, led by its incredibly hard working editors and produced by great student reporters and journalists, has put out a new edition that went live online today! Advisory Lessons

An important piece of a DVC education is the school and life skills and social awareness curriculum we cover in advisory. We are going to start posting advisory curriculum here on the blog so that you can have a starting point for family conversations about life in high school and events around the world. This past month we have focused on Latino Heritage month, and today we are going over the family/student handbook and some scenarios where school consequences would be instituted.  We hope that you use these advisory lessons to have rich conversations with your children about growing into young adults, and add your guidance and insight to the topics we discuss here at school.

SLCs

Thank you to all families who have signed up for SLCs next week! If you have yet to sign up, make sure you select a time to come in next week using the links below. School ends at 1:30pm next week for students who are passing all their classes, and if a student is not passing a course, they need to stay after school until 3:30pm to work on submitting missing work or re-assessing for those courses.

Free Kaplan Online PSAT Prep

Families – take advantage of this new, free online test prep option and use this opportunity talk to your students about their plans to take college entrance exams.

Kaplan Test Prep has announced a new, free online preparation course for the PSAT, adding another such service to an expanding field of test-prep offerings aimed at lower-income students. Officials of the test-prep service announced Tuesday that from Oct. 1 through Oct. 17, students will have access to a series of eight livestreamed, interactive lessons online. Details of the sessions and this program can be seen in this article below:

Student Led Conferences (SLCs)

Next week we are running Student Led Conferences, and classes run from 9:00am to 1:30pm. After school work time, mandatory for students with any “I”s, runs from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.
