Dear parents/guardians and students,

As many of you know, significant changes have been made to the DACA program. This Thursday, October 5th is the deadline to renew permits that will expire on or before March 5th, 2018. The Department of Homeland Security is not accepting any submissions from new applicants.

If you, your child, or any friends or family need information or resources for filing the renewal, please check out these resources from the California Department of Social Services.

Hello Families, the week of October 9^th-12^th is Student Led Conferences (SCL) week. During SLCs, students have minimum days and teachers meet with parents and students during scheduled time slots from 1:30-3:30. Please click on the link below for your son or daughter and sign up if your child has not already done so for you.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Student-Led Conferences are designed to be facilitated by students, therefore conferences will not be led by individual teachers. There will be approximately 15-30 minutes after the student presentation when parents and their child will complete reflection, goals, and the fall parent survey.  Therefore, please plan to spend approximately 30-45 minutes at your child’s SLC.

Announcements:

Ivy Prep: Please sign up for the after school ACT Prep class by Tuesday this week! This is a $500 course that DVC provides for $100 per student. Available to all Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. Courses are held M/W or T/Th after school. Please see the link Ivy Prep for more info and sign up. Full scholarships available for students/families that qualify, please reach out to Dr. Weatherford directly if you are interested in a scholarship.

School Site Council election: Please see this post if you are interested in joining the DVC School Site council for 2017-2018.

FAFSA Workhop: All Senior parents and students, please sign up for the FAFSA workshop here to help you understand and fill out the FAFSA for college financial Aid.

We are looking for three parents to serve on our School Site Council for the 2017-2018 year. The School Site Council approves long term plans for the school, including the Single Plan For Student Achievement and the Local Control and Accountability Plan.

All meetings are held on Tuesdays from 4:15-5:30 on the DVC Campus.

Dates:  October 17^th, February 6^th, April 17^th, June 5^th

If you are available to serve on those dates and at those times, please consider joining! We will have a vote during SLCs week, October 9^th through 12^th. Parents will vote on school site council members as part of the fall survey during student SLCs that week. All parents are of course welcome to come to SSC meetings, we just need three officially elected parents.

This is a reminder that we will be hosting Junior Parent night meetings on our campus! There will be two sessions on..

• Morning Session: Monday, September 25th 8:00 am-9:00 am
• Afternoon Session: Tuesday, September 26th 4:15-5:15 pm

Where: DVC Campus

We will be covering graduation requirements, Junior Year Timeline, and discussing life after high school.
