ACT Prep course during the Winter Break. Da Vinci is once again offering a winter ACT Prep course to its students through PJ Test Prep, a small test prep and tutoring company based in the south bay. SAT Seminar – $600 course, free of charge!

Run by IVY Prep on Tuesdays and Thursdays during regular seminar times, this class will help students prepare for the SAT test. It is highly encouraged that all students take a test prep course at some point sophomore or junior year prior to taking the ACT or SAT. There will be optional full-length practice test sessions for this seminar as well. Parents, if you would like to sign your student up for this course (recommended for sophomores and juniors), please tell your student that you are doing so, and email Dr. Weatherford at sweatherford@davincischools.org with their full name and grade level. We only want students who want to be in this class and are committed to learning, as the course is expensive for the school to run and we don’t want to waste any spots on kids whose parents have forced them to be there if you know what we mean! J

Free College Course on Campus (11^th and 12^th graders)

DVC is once again partnering with West LA College to offer a free college course on our campus. The course meets Mondays and Wednesday from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm at Da Vinci. Course Description is as follows: CINEMA 003: HISTORY OF MOTION PICTURE – 3 units,  UC: CSU transferable. History of the development of motion pictures, with examples, from their beginnings to the present day. Emphasis is placed on the American feature film. Classics and important films from the birth of the medium to the present time are screened and discussed with regard to their cultural influence. The course follows the evolution of the art, industry, and technology of moviemaking. If you are interested in your student taking this course, please discuss with them to make sure they are interested and committed, then email Dr. Weatherford at sweatherford@davincischools.org with their full name and grade level.

Hello, the City Clerk of Hawthorne, Dr. Paul Jimenez, is looking for students to help out with shredding and scanning of documents. If you are interested in helping out and getting service hours, please email Dr. Jimenez at pjimenez@cityofhawthorne.org by Thursday, Dec 20th.

A reminder that all students are expected to attend school every day of school this week, Monday through Thursday. Poor attendance can have a significant negative impact on a school’s budget, which of course can impact our ability to purchase needed equipment, go on field trips, and more. Even students who are done with POLs have surveys to take, many have finals to study for and take, re-presents for POLs, etc. Please make sure your student is at school this week!

Our first week of POLs went great, congrats to all of the students who have already completed one or all of their Presentations of Learning, and a special congrats to Freshman who are doing this for the first time!

All students are once again supposed to be on campus Monday through Wednesday for either the morning POL minimum schedule or the afternoon POL minimum day schedule. All students are on campus at the regular start time on Thursday at 8:50, and are released at 1:20 as it is a ‘regular’ minimum day on that last day of school.

ON THE HORIZON

• Thursday 12/20: Last Day of Semester – early release at 1:20 for all students
• Friday 12/21: No School for students
• Monday, January 14^th: First day of 2^nd Semester
