Happy Holidays!

December 21, 2019 by Erin D'Souza

Dear DVC Families,

Thank you to all of the families who contributed to our holiday meal for our DVC staff. It was a huge success! We enjoyed the lunch tremendously and are very grateful!

Semester 1 grades are complete and report cards will be mailed out today. When you receive your student’s report card, you may notice the following:

(1) There are no narrative comments for each class this semester. As DVC has increased in student enrollment, the practice of writing narrative comments has become unsustainable for our teachers. The teachers give specific, detailed comments to students regarding their Presentation of Learning, and students have digital access to their Presentation of Learning scoring guide.

(2) There are likely two classes listed for “Presentation of Learning,” and there is a grade for only one of them. Please know that the second course (the one that is missing a grade) will not be reflected on your student’s transcript.

We are so proud of the hard work that DVC students have done to strive toward mastery of the knowledge and skills of their courses, and we hope that they enjoy a well-deserved break! Our teachers and counselors are also beginning a well-deserved break, so if you have any questions about your student’s grades, I ask that you wait until we return in January. If you have any urgent questions or concerns, please direct them to me at edsouza@davincischools.org.

Our office staff will return on Monday, January 6th, and students will return on Monday, January 13th.

Wishing you and your family a happy holiday season,

Erin

Scholarship and college planning program for all 11th and 12th grade students.

December 16, 2019 by Jennifer Barba

Dear parents,

Planning for college and how to pay for it can be stressful. That’s why all of us at Da Vinci Communications want you to know about College Board Opportunity Scholarships.  This new program guides every student through the college planning process and offers them a chance to earn money for college for each action they complete.

All students are eligible to participate in this program, beginning in December of their junior year. The program doesn’t require an essay or application, and it doesn’t have a minimum GPA or test score requirement.

Make sure your student joins the program to earn chances to earn scholarships from $500 to $40,000. At least half of all scholarships—$2.5 million per year—will be awarded to students whose families earn less than $60,000 per year.

Below are the six college planning actions, as well as the timeline to become eligible for scholarships.

  1. Build Your College List ($500): Between December of junior year and July before senior year
  2. Practice for the SAT® ($1,000): Between December of junior year and October of senior year
  3. Improve Your Score ($2,000): Between April of junior year and January of senior year
  4. Strengthen Your College List ($500): Between August and October of senior year
  5. Complete the FAFSA® ($1,000): Between October and February of senior year
  6. Apply to Colleges ($1,000): Between October and February of senior year

The more effort that students put in and actions they complete, the more chances they have to earn scholarships. To learn more, visit cb.org/opportunity. Click on CB Scholarship to view the flyer.

PSAT/NMSQT Scores

December 16, 2019 by Jennifer Barba

Greetings Junior Parents,

Great news! The PSAT/NMSQT scores have been given to all the junior students that took the test. If your student was absent and did not receive their scores, they need to speak to their counselor. If your student would like to access their scores electronically they can by visiting the college board website at collegeboard.org. If your student was absent during the test, they will not have scores.

Please click on the following link to learn about how to understand the PSAT/NMSQT scores:
