Happy Saturday, DVC Families,

No School Friday, 2/5: Next week is a special schedule, as Friday (2/5) is a Professional Development Day for staff.

Black History Month: On Monday, we begin our celebration of Black History Month. Our Black Student Union has created school-wide lessons on Black history for our Connections classes. We are grateful for our student leaders, and we work as a school community to embrace Black history not just in February, but throughout the year in our classes and curriculum. This month, we specifically celebrate and highlight the many accomplishments and contributions that Black men and women have made to the fabric of our country.

Senior Cap and Gown Makeups: We are offering two final makeup opportunities for seniors who have yet to take their cap and gown photo as well as seniors who would like a re-take. The dates are Friday, February 5th and Saturday, February 13th between 10am and 3pm. Please sign up here for an appointment. Please remember to bring your cap, gown, and tassel to your appointment.

Academic Workshop Begins: On Tuesday, 2/2, we begin Academic Workshop. Academic Workshop is the classes scheduled in the purple section of the weekly schedule. This is a time for both support classes and honors classes. The support classes are specifically designed to help students who are struggling to earn a passing grade. If your student gets an invitation for a support class, please know that they are expected to attend. Any encouragement you can give them to attend this extra support session is appreciated. If your student would like to earn honors credit for a course, please encourage them to ask their teacher for information about how to participate in honors this semester. Honors classes also meet during this same time according to what is indicated in the weekly schedules.

Thinking about college? Here’s your chance to hear firsthand from those-in-the-know at hundreds of colleges and universities nearby, across the country, and around the world.

How? Attend a NACAC Virtual College Fair!

More than 500 colleges and universities will be online to talk with high school juniors and seniors on each of these days:

• Sunday, Jan. 31: 1-7 p.m. ET
• Sunday, Feb. 28: 1-7 p.m. ET
• Sunday, Mar. 7: 1-5 p.m. ET – STEM
• Tuesday, Mar. 16: 4-8 p.m. ET – Performing & Visual Arts
• Sunday, Mar. 21: 1-7 p.m. ET
• Saturday, Apr. 10: 3-7 p.m. ET – Western US
• Tuesday, Apr. 20: 3-7 p.m. ET – Southeastern US
• Sunday, May 2: 1-7 p.m. ET

Each virtual fair is a free, one-day event. Attend as many as you’d like. Families invited, too.

Sign up now at virtualcollegefairs.org. Select which colleges you’re interested in and set a reminder to attend their live Zoom sessions.

Sessions cover topics such as how to apply, financial aid, student life, and more. You can watch, learn, and get your questions answered about academics, athletics, diversity, study abroad, and other topics. You can also text chat or meet one-on-one with a college’s admission counselor by selecting a virtual meeting date and time.

Good morning! Just a quick reminder about these two events today:

There is a 9th grade supply pick-up today from 2pm – 4pm at our campus, 201 N. Douglas Street in El Segundo. Students will be able to pick up a book for English class and supplies for Physics class. Your teachers look forward to saying hi and giving you supplies.

There is a Computer Science 4 supply pick-up only for seniors in Computer Science 4 today from 11am – 1pm at our campus, 201 N. Douglas Street in El Segundo. Seniors in the Computer Science pathway will be able to get the supplies they need from their teacher, Mr. Eric Marintsch.

Please remember “windows down, masks up” when arriving for the event. This means we are asking you to ensure that each individual inside the car is wearing a mask when you roll your windows down to say hi and retrieve supplies. Also, please be sure that all individuals remain in the vehicle. We appreciate your cooperation in making this event safe for staff and families!

The appointment to take the photos is free of charge, and families will have several options to purchase digital or printed images. You are able to pay for the digital images at the time of the appointment, and you are able to purchase printed packages when the photos are available online.
