Proudly displaying their winners’ certificates, these 10th-grade students celebrate a big accomplishment: they just wrote a novel in 30 days. Joining over 300,000 other writers around the world, DVC 10th-graders took part in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), a creative writing challenge where the goal is to draft an entire novel in 30 days. Although the adult version of the challenge requires that writers meet a 50,000-word count goal, these bold novelists participated in the Young Writers Program, which allows students to set their own word count goals. Students wrote between 9,000 to 25,000 words as part of the challenge, with some Wrimos exceeding their personalized goal by over 100%!
