Hello Families – let me first, thank all the families that have generously donated time, money and resources for our TEDx event! We are over $550.00 and even have one parent who is working with friends to supply the food for the event as well! We TRULY have the BEST group of parents anywhere! We need all monies in by Wednesday to prepare for Thursday. We DO have all materials to build the stage and sets so thank you for the offers there. Your monetary donations are going to pay for those materials as well as video editing and other fees we may incur in putting on this production. School Update and Schedule this week – Nathan sent a letter to all families this morning via email. I have copied the letter here (in pieces) and attached it for your review under the Faculty and Staff tab.

School hours are as follows for this week:

Monday – 8:00am to 12:00pm

Tuesday – 8:00am to 12:00pm·

Wednesday – 8:00am to 3:55pm (TEDx preparation all day)·

Thursday – 8:00am to 3:55pm (TEDx Event)·

Friday – Professional development day, no students on campus

SPORTS Update – PLEASE review the SPORTS tab for new updates for Basketball and Volleyball practices. REMINDER – Please return your contracts and packets for your chosen sport ASAP so that you can continue to play!

CLUB INFORMATION – Da Vinci has an Archery Club and it meets at DVD/DVC, Tuesdays and Thursdays until approx 5:30pm depending on light. It is open to ALL DV students, they just need to join if interested.

FUNDRAISING – Don’t forget about the Annual Giving Campaign. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

SERVICE HOURS – Remember parents we all have service hours we need to meet for DaVinci. Please let me know if you are having any challenges and we will see what we can do. I know we have the Talent Show coming in spring and can use help there! Additionally, set up and break down from TEDx and your time volunteering there helps towards your time as well.

REMINDER –  the last day of first semester is Thursday, December 19th. On Friday December 20th, the DVC campus will be closed to students as teachers spend the day completing their grading and writing personalized comments about your children on the report cards. The report cards will be printed and mailed out on Saturday, December 21st. The DVC office will be closed until Monday, January 6th, and we will be looking forward to welcoming the students back for second semester on Monday, January 13th (this is also when teachers will be available to reply to emails).

COMMUNICATIONS DURING THE HOLIDAY BREAK – As I get information I will update the blog and send you emails to keep you posted of anything new that comes to my attention. As always, please let me know if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns (or if I have left anything out).

The most recent Family Meeting was held 12/3. POLs and Preparing for Financial Aid for college were discussed. Meeting minutes and presented power points are attached for your review.

Next Family meeting is Tuesday, January 21, 2014 – Joint meeting at Science School.

POLs begin this week. All students need to be at school by 8am every day. All students not presenting will be in the Green Room working on their POLs or TEDx activities for our TEDx Presentation Day.

Annual Giving Campaign begins and continues through 2/28/14. Information has been emailed (if you didn’t receive it check your spam folder for an email from Dr. Wunder) and mailers will be going out soon. Audiences Unlimited Studios is offering Da Vinci students/staff/teachers & parents/guardians an opportunity to attend the free taping/filming of AFV (America’s Funniest Videos) at the MANHATTAN BEACH STUDIOS, 1600 ROSECRANS AVE., MANHATTAN BEACH, CA. December 14, 2013 from 2:30pm to 6:30pm.

Requirements:

Age limited 15 and up

Who can attend – Teachers, Staff, Students, Parents/Guardians

Must be on time & must dress nice (no jeans, tee-shirts) Dresses, Shirt & Tie, Slacks and Dress Shoes – Only!

Bonus – $200.00 for best dressed Boy & Girl

4^th Annual Talent Show – COMING SOON

March 7, 2014 DV will host the 4^th Annual Talent Show.

Location – Dana Middle School’s MPR

Time – 6:00 – 8:30

Rehearsals

Rehearsal schedule:

Location:  DVS The Forum

Time:  4:30 – 6:30/7:30

Feb 20th & 27^th, March 6^th

Rehearsal support:

• Help with sign-in
• Coordinating groups/performers
• Listening and watching for inappropriate language or gestures
• Time Keeping (each act will have a max of 6 minutes to performance, may very)

We will need help with the following on day of the show: (we have access to the room at 4:00pm – 9:15pm)

• Set-up (sweep floors, put out chairs, decorations)
• Collecting money at the door
• Crowd Control
• Food/Drink Sales
• Stage support (will advise later)
• Clean-up after (we need to be out of the room between 9:00 & 9:15 PM)
