- This past weekend our very own Leilani D. represented DVC honorably at the National Championship for NBA Math Hoops in a fun-filled weekend in Oakland, CA. She was the only student from LA and one of 20 students from across the country to compete. Leilani made it to the quarterfinals with her partner from Sacramento but was eliminated then. She was an incredible competitor who lifted up her opponents and drew crowds of audiences to watch & hear her play with awesome energy – earning her the Best Sportsmanship Award!
- There are over 7,000 students nation-wide that play NBA math hoops in schools or after-school programs in order to improve their mental math skills, use of statistics and while having fun and learning NBA & WNBA knowledge. This year was a piolet year for the program in the Mental Math Bootcamp seminar class where students played NBA Math Hoops weekly.
- Over the weekend we also learned about sports statistics & sports journalism at Bleacher Report, learned from a panel of Black Scientists from UC Berkeley, engaged in community service and toured Oakland & SF.
