Dear DVC Families,
We write this message to you on a Sunday evening that is filled with grief, anxiety, and unrest in our local and national communities over the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis this past week. This tragic event was videotaped and broadly shared on the news and social media in a time period where the very recent and tragic public deaths of Black men and women like Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor have also occurred. As we all know, we are also in the middle of a pandemic that is ravaging our nation, further complicating this time period.
Our entire DVC community is likely to be affected and experiencing a range of emotions about all that is going on. We made this video informing students and families that we will create space in the virtual world for those who wish to grieve together, and we also encourage students who are struggling with the gravity of this tragedy to reach out to DVC staff if needed. Please view the video and let us know if your family could use our support during this difficult time.
We hope that you are safe this evening and always.
Sincerely,
Erin & Andrew
