Dear Seniors & Parents,

A Cal Grant is money for college you don’t have to pay back. Cal Grants can be used at any University of California, California State University or California Community College, as well as qualifying independent (private) and career colleges or technical schools in California.

To qualify, you must apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) by March 2, 2023 and meet the eligibility and financial requirements as well as any minimum GPA requirements. There are three kinds of Cal Grants (A, B and C) but you don’t have to figure out which one to apply for. Your eligibility will be based on your FAFSA or CADAA responses, your verified high school Cal Grant GPA, the type of California colleges you list on your FAFSA and whether you’re a recent high school graduate. Da Vinci Communications is required to submit your student’s verified GPA. By law you have the option to “opt out” of this process if you do not want Da Vinci Communications to submit your student’s verified GPA. If you choose to “opt out”, this means your student will not be eligible to receive a Cal Grant. In order to “opt-out”, please complete the attached form and return to Ms. Aldrete via email at maldrete@davincischools.org no later than September 16th, 2022.

If you do not return the “opt-out” form, Da Vinci Communications will submit your student’s verified GPA to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) to determine your student’s Cal Grant eligibility.

• Dual Enrollment (Hosted by El Camino College Dual Enrollment Office)
• Self-Care (Hosted by Ms. Thomas)

Registration is required if a student plans on attending this week’s College Prep Workshop Day. These workshops will be in-person at DVC. Hello DVC Rising Juniors and Seniors,

Da Vinci is offering two dual enrollment courses for Fall 2022:

BUS 101 (formally BUS 25)- Intro To Business (Synchronous Class)

POLI 1- Governments of US & CA (Synchronous Class)

This course is a survey of organization and management factors influencing the establishment, location, and operation of businesses. This course emphasizes the functional area of accounting as well as the legal framework within which business activities are conducted. The course also emphasizes the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) in a multicultural and globalized environment.   3 units; 3 hours lecture Transfers to CSU/UC Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30pm – 4:55pm  Start Date: Tuesday August 30th, 2022

This course is a survey of the concepts, theories, and functions of the American political system. The basic principles of the United States Constitution and the government of California will be examined. Emphasis will be placed on the formal and informal influences of federalism on national and state governments. *Note: Some UC transferable courses have credit limitations. For details, see a counselor, the Transfer Center adviser, or the articulation officer. 3 units; 3 hours lecture Transfers to CSU/UC Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00pm – 4:25pm Start Date: Monday August 29th, 2022

Who:   Rising Juniors and Seniors from DVC, DVD, and DVS

What: College courses at Da Vinci, through El Camino College. Courses meet transfer requirements for all Cal State and U.C. campuses, as well as most private colleges and universities.

Why:   Get a start on your college credits! It looks great on your college applications. (Classes do not count towards high school credits)

Cost:   Free! The state of California and Da Vinci Schools pick up the costs, including textbook fees. Donations to help cover the cost of the textbooks from families that can are appreciated.

Where: Classes will be held virtually on the El Camino College student portal.

If you are interested, make sure you apply to El Camino College Fall 2022 term and turn in the attached completed dual enrollment form with your student ID number and/or the application confirmation number to your school counselor by Thursday June 16th, 2022. Classes start on Monday August 29th, 2022. To be eligible to take a dual enrollment class, the student will need to pass all their academic classes, have no credit recovery for a-g classes, and be a rising senior or junior student. Space is limited and we are accepting forms on a first come first serve basis!

All students must have applied for admission to El Camino College.

Never applied?

• Submit an application for admission for Fall 2022: elcamino.edu/apply
• Students can follow along screen-by-screen with this link: Help to Complete the Application for Admission
• After submitting, you will receive your Welcome Email (with 7-digit El CaminoCollege ID #) in 1-3 business days at the personal email address given on your application.

Previously applied?

• Your El Camino student account is still in good standing if you submitted an application for admission for Spring 2022 or Fall 2021. You don’t need to reapply if you took courses during the Spring 2022 or Fall 2021 semesters, you’ll just need to submit a dual enrollment form to your counselor.

Dual Enrollment Application

All students must submit a separate, completed Dual Enrollment Application for each term they wish to be manually registered for class(es). Students, parents, and authorized high school signers can use Fill & Sign Tools in Adobe Acrobat Reader to fill out the form and draw their signatures:

NOTE: Our Admissions Office cannot accept forms with typed signatures. All signatures need to be drawn using the above methods, either by pen, mouse, or touchscreen. This is the most common reason why a form cannot be processed and students will not be registered.

MyECC

MyECC is El Camino College’s secure online portal where students view their registered classes, grades, unofficial transcripts, etc. Your MyECC username and password are included in your Welcome Email. You will be prompted to create a new password when you log into MyECC for the first time.

NOTE: El Camino College recently updated the Password Requirements for MyECC. Passwords must include at least 10 characters, 1 Capital letter, 1 number (number cannot be at end or beginning of password), and no repeated/consecutive characters. View Complete Password Complexity Requirements

Canvas

Students will have access to Canvas, our online course management system, only after they are manually registered in an online class. You will need to use your MyECC login information to access Canvas.

Dropping a Class

Registered students who wish to drop the class must perform this action themselves in MyECC by the drop deadlines.

Dual Enrollment offers Drop-In Help via Zoom every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00-5:00 p.m. to assist students one-on-one with questions they may have about their application for admission or Dual Enrollment Application.

Here is the recording from our Posse Foundation Scholarship Information Meeting that took place last week, 6/1- Posse Informational Meeting for Juniors. This recording includes important information about the application process and time commitments when selected for the scholarship.

 

If a student is interested in being nominated for the Posse Foundation Scholarship after watching the recording, email Ms. Aldrete (maldrete@davincischools.org) by this Friday, June 10th to make sure the student is on the DVC Posse Scholarship Nominee list, which is the first step in beginning their Posse Scholarship application.
