South Bay Families Connected

Did you know that Da Vinci Schools are included among 115 South Bay Families Connected Partner Schools? Through this partnership, our parents and staff have free access to resources and educational events addressing a wide array of youth wellness topics, from healthy tech use to substance use prevention. We invite you to attend any of their upcoming events, including screenings of the new Screenagers film and the fentanyl prevention film “Come Back Home”, as well as the monthly Families Connected Parent Chat support group. Be sure to check-out this month’s Families Connected newsletter and sign-up to gain access to new resources and events each month. Week 7 Schedule

We had a great week at DVC, including a terrific trip for our 12th graders to NACAC’s College Fair at the LA Convention Center where over 1,800 colleges and universities were represented! For more college and career information, please attend our upcoming 11th and 9th grade virtual info meetings put on by our counseling team:

  • 11th grade: Thursday, October 3rd – starts at 4:30pm (ZOOM LINK HERE)
  • 9th grade: Thursday, October 17th – starts at 4:30pm (ZOOM LINK HERE)

We look forward to our special celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Thursday, 10/3 put on by our Latino Student Union (LSU)! A reminder that there is no school on Friday, 10/4, and student-led conferences begin on Monday, 10/7.

Student-Led Conferences: Parents & guardians are expected to attend their student’s conference during the week of Monday, 10/7. Students will be dismissed early (at 1:50pm) on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to accommodate the conferences. You can also find grade-level information and sign ups at the following links:

Community Learning Days: Our first CLD Day is coming up on Friday, October 11th! Last Friday, all students were shown this video explaining CLD options and given a new student survey to fill out. The survey asks students whether they plan to have their learning experience on campus or off campus. If students select the off-campus option, a CLD Off-Campus Permission Slip must be signed by parent/guardian and turned in to the Advisory teacher no later than Thursday, 10/3. Students were provided a copy of this permission slip during Advisory on Friday. Please ask your student what they selected for their CLD Day. The survey will be open until 4pm on Monday, September 30th and students can log into their davincischools google account and make changes (or complete it for the first time if they haven’t yet done so). 

School Photos: DVC Picture Day photos are now ready for review! Each student has their own individual gallery and families can choose the photo they’d like for the yearbook. The deadline to choose photos for the yearbook is next Friday, September 27th. You can access your individual gallery here: https://my.photoday.com/s/staceelianna/davincischools

  2. Enter your student name and their 5-digit ID number
  3. Access your photos and make your selection

Student-Led Conferences: Sign up today!

College Rep Visits this Week (9/23-9/27)

Hello DVC,

Here are the list of colleges/universities that will be visiting us during lunch this week:

  • Thursday, September 26th @ 11:45 am: New York School of Interior Design
  • Friday, September 27th @ 11:45 am: CA Army National Guard

All college rep visits will take place in Mr. Jackson’s room (3203). As a reminder, please grab your lunch and head upstairs to Jackson’s class. No extended lunch passes will be given.

Students of all grade levels (9-12) can attend the college rep visits.

Week 6 Schedule

We had a wonderful week at DVC, with highlights including a field trip to the Latino College Expo, a Marketing Pathway trip to Covenant House, 9th and 10th grade Physics and Chemistry experiments, Hispanic Heritage Month presentations during Advisory led by Latino Student Union (LSU) representatives, and a 12th Grade FAFSA Info Night for parents! We are also so thankful for all the families who filled our Wednesday Snack Sign Ups so quickly – thank you for your generosity!

Virtual Parent/Guardian College & Career Info Meetings: We are pleased to offer 3 meetings with our DVC school counselors about college and career preparation. Please join us via zoom on the following dates:

Phone & Personal Device Policy Update: Thank you to all the students who have done a terrific job keeping their phones away during instructional time! We have noticed that students are less distracted and more focused in class with our new policy, and we appreciate the support of our parents and guardians as we strive to create an environment that promotes digital citizenship and academic success. We know that several students bring their own laptops and tablets to school, and we want to be sure that these devices are used with teacher permission for schoolwork only. Students who use laptops and tablets for messaging, gaming, or other off-task activities will lose the privilege of using their own personal device for schoolwork for one month.

FLEX Block: FLEX Block is a designated time during the school day when students can choose which classroom to attend, based on their current teachers and academic needs. To select their FLEX Block, students must use the SmartPass platform (app.smartpass.app) and choose a teacher who is already part of their schedule. Those interested in honors courses should sign up for honors sessions, while students needing extra help are encouraged to select classes where they need additional support. Students are encouraged to sign up on Saturday or Sunday for the next week, and all students are required to sign up no later than Advisory on the first day of the week.

Wolf Pack Counselors: In addition to the school counselors and the outside resources listed here, we have trained a group of 11th and 12th grade students in peer counseling. These students provide in-person, during-the-school-day support for any DVC student, offering both one-to-one counseling sessions and peer mediation sessions. Students: To request to see a Wolf Pack Counselor, students should do one of the steps below:

  1. Go to the front desk and ask Ms. Jackie or Ms. Pattie to see a Wolf Pack Counselor. Only do this step if your matter is urgent.
  2. Put a request at THIS LINK and you will be pulled out of class within 2-3 business days for your counseling session.

Student-Led Conferences: Be on the lookout for communication regarding signing up for Student-Led Conferences! We ask all parents to come in for a conference during the week of October 7th. Students are dismissed at 1:50pm from Monday, October 7th – Thursday, October 10th, and conferences are scheduled from 2:00pm – 3:30pm. We look forward to meeting with you soon!
