We are excited for this week’s Student-Led Conferences, as it is another opportunity to interact with all of our wonderful families!  Students will also be taking the PSAT and SAT this week, as well as 9th graders engaging in the CHYA curriculum.  Please note that 9th graders will have a different schedule than the rest of the school as a result — both schedules are linked here.

 

Student-Led Conferences: We are looking forward to welcoming our families to campus. Students will be dismissed at 1:50pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday to accommodate the conferences. In addition to reviewing grades and academic progress, each grade-level team has a specific area of focus. We will also have our Peer Mentors in the Common Area to help students get organized, and all of our counselors will be available for families in Lolita’s Room! A reminder that Wednesday has a normal schedule and no conferences. We look forward to meeting with you soon!

9th Grade Focus: Presenting current work and progress, discussing work-habits for success, and ensuring behavior expectations are met for our community; 9th Grade SLC Info Letter & Sign Up

10th Grade Focus: Presenting current work and progress toward mastery, and reflection on character, citizenship, organization & mental health; 10th Grade SLC Info Letter & Sign Up

11th Grade Focus: Presenting work and progress from each class, support with time management for school, extracurriculars, weekends, social life, and review of weekly schedules with families; 11th Grade SLC Info Letter & Sign Up

12th Grade Focus: Presenting work and progress from each class, improvement plan for the rest of semester 1, and reviewing Senior Contract with counsellors; 12th Grade SLC Info Letter & Sign Up

 

California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA): Dr. Emily Green, Nurse Titsyana Lucero, and guest presenters will be presenting the health & sexual education curriculum (“CHYA”, or “California Healthy Youth Act”) to 9th grade students the week of October 13th-October 17th.  Click this link to read the notification letter from Dr Emily Green. If you have any questions about the content that will be covered, please email Dr. Green at egreen@davincischools.org. Parents have the right to “opt-out” of this presentation for their child. If you wish to do so, please email Elizabeth Ornelas, DVC Assistant Principal, at eornelas@davincischools.org. 

 

PSAT for Grades 9, 10, 11 & SAT for Grade 12: DVC 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 15th.  At DVC, we believe that it is important to have students try these practice tests and become familiar with them in advance of taking the SAT.  For 11th grade students, there is also the possibility of scholarships and recognition based on PSAT performance.  12th grade students have the option of taking the SAT for a final time before applying to college!
