HBCU Virtual Summit- December 4th, 2021

Happy Thursday DVC!

The Virtual HBCU Summit Series is back! Make sure you register for one of the dates to attend the HBCU Summit. Students will get an opportunity to speak with lots of HBCU Representatives about the many opportunities of attending an HBCU, Apply and get accepted on the spot to some of the HBCUs participating, attend the various workshops including the HBCU 101 Experience Seminar!

There is nothing like the HBCU Experience! The HBCU Summit Series is designed to expand awareness of the Black College Experience as well as education, career, and financial aid opportunities for students and their families.

The HBCU Summit Series dates:

Time: 9:00AM PST – 2:00PM PST

ALL students are welcomed to attend the HBCU Summit Series!! We highly recommend Middle School, High School and Community College students!

Hello DVC,

Happy Monday! There are no college visits this week however, there are two important reminders to announce:

DVC’s UC Applications submission deadline is this Wednesday, November 17th. I will be pulling out students on Wednesday during their College and Career Readiness class to do a final UC Application check and/or submit their UC Applications. For those students who don’t have their College and Career Readiness class that day, feel free to stop by my office during period 3A (UC Application Drop-In Hours) so I can look over your applications. The official deadline for CSUs/UCs is November 30th, but I’m giving this early deadline to Seniors to ensure we are available to answer all their questions since Thanksgiving Break is next week.
Please submit your FAFSA! FAFSA opened on October 1st and some colleges have a first-come first-serve basis for campus scholarships.

Male Seniors: Apply to Bridge Builders Foundation’s “Start to Finish” Program

The Application period is NOW OPEN for the 2022 cohort of students for the Bridge Builders Foundation’s “Start to Finish” Program. This is a recurring scholarship for African American Males who are current Seniors (cumulative 3.0 GPA) providing financial support upon entry to college, and continuing for 3 consecutive years ($5,500 per student). In addition, students receive dedicated mentoring, coaching, career and life guidance.

Students in this program have a 6-year college completion rate that is over 90%, which exceeds the national average for ANY COHORT of students (all genders/all races).

In 2022,this organization will award over $100,000 in Scholarships, and we will exceed over $1 million in financial support provided since inception. For more information, please visit their website: www.BridgeBuildersLA.org.

Summer Programs runs from June 19 to July 16, 2022.

Whether you are interested in breaking down the molecular biology of today’s lunch or developing a character from a short story to put into a college portfolio, USC Summer Programs allows you to take intellectual risks, hone your skills, discover your passions, and kick start your college experience.

Choose from over 20 courses in multiple disciplines –– from business and engineering to acting and creative writing, there’s a wide range of courses and subjects for you to explore.

El Camino College Night- November 10th

Happy Tuesday DVC!

El Camino College will be hosting their College Night on campus tomorrow November 10th from 5:00-7:30 pm. College Night features a variety of workshops, resource fair, and twilight campus tours. All prospective students, parents, adult learners, educators, and community members are invited to attend. Workshop topics include Transfer Strategies and Career Educations Programs.
