STEMEd for Girls is a FREE series of lively, informative, and engaging virtual workshops that will pave the way for your success as you move through high school, into college, and eventually on to your career. Designed for those who want to stand out among their peers, the program:

Illustrates what leadership in STEM looks and feels like, emphasizes the rewards of innovation, describes different types of mentorship relationships, discusses what it means to have and expect a sense of belonging in STEM, presents coping strategies, and shares many more skills you can use for advancement and promotion in high school.
Demystifies the world of STEM and shows how accessible—and exciting—these fields can be.
Explores the different subject areas that you can choose as a college major, including biology, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, physics, and technology/computer science.
Shows the many types of lucrative jobs and careers a STEM education can prepare you for.

Latino College Expo Field Trip for 12th and 11th Grade

A Latino College Expo field trip typically involves a visit to an event or fair that is specifically designed to connect Latino students with higher education opportunities. These expos are organized to provide valuable information, resources, and support to Latino students who are interested in pursuing higher education.

Here’s what you can expect from a Latino College Expo field trip:

Exhibitor Booths: At the expo, you’ll find a variety of exhibitor booths representing colleges, universities, trade schools, and other educational institutions. These booths often have representatives from the institutions who can answer questions about their programs, admission requirements, financial aid, and scholarships.
Workshops and Seminars: The expo may offer workshops and seminars on topics such as college application strategies, financial aid and scholarships, career planning, and more. These sessions are typically conducted by experts in the field.
Networking Opportunities: You’ll have the chance to network with college representatives, current college students, and other attendees. This can be valuable for making connections and gathering information about different educational paths.
Information on Financial Aid: Many expos offer information on financial aid options specifically tailored to Latino students. You can learn about scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial assistance.

To participate in a Latino College Expo field trip, 12th grade students can pick up a permissions slip with Mr. Jackson and 11th grade students can pick up a permission slip with Mr. Covelman. Field trip forms will be due on Friday, September 8 to Mrs. Barba or Mrs. Aldrete.

College & Career Rep Visits This Week (9/5-9/8)

Happy Labor Day DVC,

Here are the list of college/career reps that will be visiting DVC during lunch this week:

Thursday, September 7th @ 11:45 am: Whittier College

All college rep visits will take place in Mr. Jackson’s room (3203), no sign-ups are required to attend. Students are able to grab lunch after the presentation as I will give out excuse slips to extend their lunch time.

DVC Students of all grade levels (9-12) can attend these rep visits.

Happy Friday, DVC Families!

Next week is short but busy, with the highlights being Picture Days on Tuesday & Wednesday, Back to School Night on Thursday, and the DVC Club Fair on Friday! As a reminder, there is no school on Monday due to the Labor Day Holiday.

Picture Day: All students will have their picture taken on Tuesday or Wednesday. Students will get their picture taken during English class. Click here for the Picture Day Schedule.

Back to School Night on Thursday, 9/7: We are excited to welcome all parents and guardians into our classrooms on Thursday, September 7th for Back to School Night! We will be starting a presentation in the Black Box Theater at 5:15pm. Yes, this is earlier than we previously stated, but we want to make sure you have ample time to get all the information you need, including how to make a Canvas account! Canvas Access: Parents and guardians are able to see student grades and assignments on Canvas, our Learning Management Platform. Please use these resources to create your account and link to your child’s account: Da Vinci Canvas: Parent/Guardian Accounts How-To Website If you are having difficulty, we will be happy to help you at Back to School Night.

Club Fair on Friday, 9/8: All students will get the opportunity to join DVC Clubs on Friday, 9/8 at the end of the day. It is our hope that every student joins one or more clubs! We look forward to getting those sign ups!

Tutoring: We are pleased to offer free after school tutoring Mondays through Thursdays! Our tutor, Alex, specializes in math and science, but he is willing to help all students in all subjects. Tutoring will take place in Room 3206 (Rob’s room) according to the following schedule:

Monday, 3:35 – 4:30
Tuesday, 3:35 – 4:30 (2 hours of tutoring available on early dismissal Wednesdays)
Wednesday, 2:30 – 4:30
Thursday, 3:35 – 4:30
No tutoring on Fridays

Schedule Changes: At this time, the Schedule Change Request Form is closed. We will do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible of the requests already submitted. Counselors will be working to solidify any remaining changes to schedules next week.
