Announcements From Real World Learning Director (this post includes two opportunities for youth)

Southern California’s Annual Youth Leadership Summit for High School Students with Disabilities

The Youth Leadership Summit is a five-day leadership program from July 16-21 for students with disabilities, held at Cal Poly Pomona University.

Attendees will learn advocacy and leadership skills from alumni and professionals with disabilities and create a “Personal Futures Plan” to help reach their future education, independent living, and career goals.

Attendees will interact with leaders with disabilities, which may include celebrities, politicians, entertainers, and other adult role models with disabilities. Participants also make lifelong friendships with other Southern California attendees and have mentorship opportunities with alumni.

There is no COST for the students to attend. They must fill out an application to be considered.

Women’s Fire Camp

The Women’s Fire Alliance is collaborating with El Camino Fire Academy to put on a Women’s Fire Camp June 3-4. The camp is for students ages 16+ and will run for two days from 8am-5pm each day.

This is a rigorous camp. Be prepared to participate hands on with firefighter equipment, professional firefighters, and perform a Biddle Physical Ability Test. RSVP here!

College & Career Rep Visits This Week (5/15-5/19)

Goodmorning DVC,

Here are the list of college/career reps that will be visiting DVC during lunch this week:

Thursday, May 18th@ 11:45 am: U.S. Air Force (Room 3203)
Thursday, May 18th @ 11:45 am: POSSE Foundation Scholarship (Juniors Only, Room 3202)

All college rep visits will take place in Mr. Jackson’s room (3203), no sign-ups are required to attend. Students are able to grab lunch after the presentation as I will give out excuse slips to extend their lunch time.

DVC Students of all grade levels (9-12) can attend the U.S. Air Force Presentation.

Only current Juniors are allowed to attend the POSSE Foundation Scholarship meeting.

Week 35 Schedule

A huge thank you to the DVC families for showing us so much appreciation during Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! We felt loved with all the delicious goodies and awesome gift card donations. We had a lot of fun and we are grateful for your generosity!

End of Semester 1: There are only two weeks left until the start of Presentations of Learning (POLs) and Finals. The last day of academic instruction for the semester is Friday, May 26th, and all coursework needed for graduation and all late/missing work is due at this time. Please check your student’s grades on PowerSchool or Canvas and email teachers if you have any questions or concerns. Information regarding Presentations of Learning (POLs) and Final Exams will be shared with students and families this week.

The 23-24 School Year: Next year will be the 11th year of Da Vinci Communications! The first day of school is Monday, August 14, 2023. You can find the calendar for next year here: 2023-2024 Da Vinci Communications Calendar

Career Day: We have Career Day coming up on Wednesday, May 24th, and we are looking for guest speakers. Please fill out this link if you are willing to donate your time!

Summer School: We will be running a small summer school program for students in need of credit recovery. Information regarding summer school will be sent out soon. Here are the dates and times for summer school:

Session 1: June 13-June 30 (8:30 – 11:30am)
Session 2: July 11-July 27 (8:30 – 11:30am)

2023 Summer Career Training Programs – Apply by May 22!

Da Vinci Families,

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a number of Summer Career Training Programs around the trades, entrepreneurship, aviation, and space system designs. All programs will take place at our 201 N. Douglas campus, and will be free and open to all current Da Vinci high school students, including graduating seniors. Space is limited! DEADLINE TO APPLY IS MONDAY, MAY 22.

Juniors- Posse Foundation Scholarship Information Session (5/18)

Good afternoon 11th grade Parents and Students,

Every year, The Posse Foundation works closely with high schools to recruit Posse Scholars. Each Posse Scholar wins a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to attend one of Posse’s partner colleges or universities (check partner schools here). If you are interested in being nominated and demonstrate leadership and academic potential, please attend our information session next Thursday, May 18th during lunch. Our Posse Foundation Information Session will be led by one of our Posse Scholar recipients, Daniela Torres (Class of 2023). It is highly encouraged for Juniors interested in Posse to attend this meeting so they can be nominated by Ms. Aldrete.
