Week 36

We had a great week last week at DVC, as we celebrated Seniors receiving special honors at our Senior Awards Night, finished MAP testing for grades 9-10, and had our final seminars of the year.  This week, we look forward to our last week of instruction before POLs, and our Asian American Pacific Islander CD on Friday!

 

Graduation Info: Date, Yard Signs, RSVP, Notices

  • Commencement for the Class of 2026 will be on June 11th 2026, at 1:00 P.M. in the Da Vinci Schools Gym.
  • Class of 2026 Yard signs are available for pickup from DVC!  Please see the Front Office to pick up your sign.
  • Parents of Seniors have been emailed for graduation RSVP information.  If you have not received this email, please contact Mr. Daramola (adaramola@davincischools.org) as soon as possible.
  • Parents of Seniors who are currently not passing a graduation required class have been emailed – as a reminder, all classwork is due on Friday, May 29th.
  • We are proud to announce this year’s graduation honorees:
    • Valedictorian: Cornelius Lucey
    • Student Choice Speaker: Deon Radcliff Jr.
    • DVC Citizen Award Winner: Djamal Bongo Schultz
    • Staff Speaker: Janeé Gerard

Presentations of Learning (POLs): Our 9th, 10th, and 11th graders begin Presentations of Learning (POLs) on Tuesday, June 2nd! POLs give students the opportunity to develop their speaking and presentation skills and are an opportunity for students to reflect publicly on their learning. You can read all the schoolwide POL policies HERE. Here are a few important notes about POLs:

Presentation Attire: Students are expected to dress in professional attire, detailed as follows:

  • Button-down dress shirt (shirt must be tucked in) or or non-revealing blouse (must cover shoulders); Suit jacket (optional)
  • Khaki pants or dress pants (no jeans); Dress or skirt that touches tops of knees when standing up straight
  • Closed-toe dress shoes (no sneakers or excessively high heels)
  • Hair should not cover the face

Schedule: Students will be assigned their presentation dates and times on Tuesday, May 26th. Any requests for changes to a student’s POL date or time must be made by a student’s parent or guardian on or before Friday, May 29th. Please make these requests directly to your student’s teachers.

Summer School: 

  • Students and families are being notified by counselors if Summer School may be required for your student.  Summer School at DVC is offered for students who need Credit Recovery, and is done in person.

Accelerated Learning & Dual Enrollment:

  • Students who meet the required criteria are able to take Accelerated Geometry or Algebra 2 during this year’s Summer Session.  These courses are offered virtually. Please contact your student’s counselor for more information.
  • Dual Enrollment for Summer Sessions: Summer Dual Enrollment courses can be a great opportunity for extended learning.  These Summer Dual Enrollment courses are offered through local community colleges and not directly through DVC in the Summer Session.  Dual Enrollment courses through DVC are offered for students in grades 10-12 during the school year.  If students need a dual enrollment form signed for summer session, please contact their counselor by June 5th. 

Da Vinci Schools Family Survey: DVC Families, your voice matters.  Messages with your personalized survey link directly from Kelvin Education have been sent to you. Please take a few minutes to click on the link and take the survey before Friday May 29th. Your honest input helps us celebrate what’s working and identify areas where we can improve.  

Attendance and STIS Forms: Dear Parents and Guardians, as shared during our Back to School Night, our school set a goal of reaching 96% attendance this year, which means each student could have only 7 absences throughout the year. We are currently at 94.4%, and every day counts as we approach the end of the school year.  One important way families can help us reach this goal is by supporting students in completing any missing STIS forms. 

As a reminder, when a student is absent:

  1. A parent/guardian should email Ms. Pattie (pfoxman@davincischools.org) to excuse the absence
  2. The student should submit a Short-Term Independent Study (STIS) form to document the learning completed while out of school

We appreciate your support in encouraging students to complete any missing STIS forms in a timely and detailed way. Students may also stop by the front office to see Mrs. Adriana for support or sign up for STIS Support Flex Block if they need help.  Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to finish the year strong!

WDV Performing Arts: 

  •  Join us for an inspiring evening at the Spring Performing Arts Seminar Night (5/26), showcasing the work of students from our dynamic performing arts seminar classes! Featuring presentations from Stagecraft, Drum Ensemble, Music Production, On-Stage Acting, and On-Camera Acting, this event highlights the creativity, collaboration, and artistic growth that have taken place throughout the semester. From live music to scene work, tech design to digital media, come experience the wide range of talent our students have to offer. (The Spring Seminar Night will take place in the Blackbox on Tue, 5/26 at 6pm. Admission is FREE—all are welcome to attend!)
