Week 12

Last week was so much fun at DVC, with a Halloween-themed Spirit Week and our annual Halloween CD and Advisory Mascot Parade.  We also celebrated Red Ribbon Week, and passed out candy to students who took a red bracelet and made a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle, which was also discussed in Advisory.  Please remember to fill out any learning logs from Friday’s CLD Day, and we look forward to a 4 day week beginning on Tuesday (as a reminder, 3:30 dismissal this Wednesday).  Students, enjoy your Monday off!

Progress Reports: We have a little more than 6 weeks left for this semester, and the grades students earn in December will be the grades that appear on students’ high school transcript. Progress reports are being mailed home on Monday, 11/2. The purpose of progress reports is to give families a snapshot of student course grades, and to be the starting point for a conversation at home about how to stay successful in school in these final weeks of the semester. Please follow up with your student’s teachers directly with any questions about assignments or grades.

3:30pm Wednesday Dismissal on 11/4:  A reminder that this Wednesday is a 3:30 dismissal.

Exhibition: Dear Families, we are excited to invite you to our Exhibition on Wednesday, November 18th from 5:30-7:00! Grades 9-11 will be exhibiting their work this fall.  This year, your entrance ticket is a gift to our community: please bring one or more non-perishable canned food items to donate to our canned food drive if you are able.  Canned vegetables, soups, beans, fruits, and proteins like tuna or chicken are all wonderful choices. Please check that items are unexpired and unopened. Every can helps a neighbor in need, and we are grateful for your generosity. We can’t wait to see you and celebrate our students’ hard work!

Thanksgiving Gratitude Week: As we approach the Thanksgiving season, we are especially grateful for the incredible people who make Da Vinci Communications such a special place. From our teachers and counselors to our paraeducators, custodians, and front office team, our staff works hard every day to support our students and school community. To show our appreciation, we are organizing Gratitude Baskets for all 60 DVC staff members! On Friday, November 20, each staff member will receive a gift bag filled with snacks, treats, words of appreciation from students and families, and a gift card.  All donations are due by November 18th.  Please see here for more details.

College Rep Visits: Interested in learning more about a college or university? College rep visits take place in Mr. Jackson’s room at lunchtime.  This week features:

  • University of California, Irvine – Tuesday, November 3rd

Fall Family & Student Survey:  Our Da Vinci Fall Survey is live from October 5th until November 1st. You will receive a text and email with your personalized survey link. To take the survey, you will need to click the link from the text or email and respond to the questions.  Your feedback is valued and appreciated.

Absence Reporting Reminder: If a student is going to be absent, parents should fill out the Absence Form.  After this is filled out, students can fill out the STIS Form in order to recover and clear this absence.

Tutoring: By popular demand, Tutor Alex is returning for another year of tutoring at DVC!  Tutoring in all subject areas (except pathways and art) is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:30-4:30 in room 3205 (Sandoval).

Here’s what’s coming up THIS WEEK and beyond:
