We ended the week with a terrific CD where we celebrated the Class of 2024 and saw the final episode of the VP Weekly! We also had a great Senior Awards Night as well as a Photography Exhibition on Thursday evening. There is no school on Monday, 5/27 (Memorial Day Holiday). We hope you have a terrific Memorial Day Weekend and wish to extend a special word of gratitude to all those who have served or are currently serving in our country’s armed forces!

Senior Finals & Activities: Our seniors will have finals on Tuesday, 5/28 and Wednesday, 5/29. All students are expected to attend all their finals and be passing classes required for graduation in order to be eligible to participate in the scheduled senior activities listed below:

• Disneyland Grad Night on Friday, 5/31
• Beach Day on Tuesday, 6/4
• Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, 6/6

Summer School: We will be offering Summer School for students in need of credit recovery as well as students currently in 9th grade wishing to take Geometry over the summer in order to accelerate in math (specific requirements must be met in order to qualify for the course). Please check your email for a message from Alison Gomez, Summer School Principal, to confirm summer school registration. Summer School details HERE and below:

• Summer School Session 1 Dates: Tuesday, June 11 – Friday, June 28 (no class on June 19th for Juneteenth)

Special thanks to the parents and DVC alumni who led workshops during our Career Day! Our 10th and 11th grade students were able to choose to learn about careers in fields such as marine biology, education, dentistry, nursing, mental health, and costume design. DVC’s Counseling Team organized this terrific event for students, and we couldn’t have done it without our volunteers – thank you!

May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Students have been learning about Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultures during Advisory for the past two weeks, and this week is AAPI Spirit Week! Check out the spirit week days and fundraisers this week in the announcements deck!

Throughout the week, we will also be celebrating PRIDE Month! See flyers around the school for activities for students during lunch in Hapner’s room all week long. Thank you to Pink & Lavender Club for organizing and decorating the school.

Photography Showcase on Thursday, 5/23: Students in the DVC Photography Seminar have prepared a special series of editorial shoots that will be on display in the Black Box Theater at 201 N. Douglas on Thursday, 5/23 starting at 4:30pm. Please come to enjoy their work! This is the pre-show to the Senior Awards Night.

Senior Awards Night on Thursday, 5/23: We are excited to celebrate students in the Class of 2024 who will be receiving awards for their accomplishments during high school in the Black Box Theater at 201 N. Douglas on Thursday, 5/23 at 5:30pm. Invited students and families have received an invitation to this event via email. Please RSVP if you have not yet done so, and feel free to come early to check out the Photography Showcase that is the pre-show!

Formal Clothing Donations: We would love for all of our students to have access to formal clothing even when it may not be possible for families to incur the cost. If you have some clothing / shoes that you would like to donate, we would gladly welcome it! Here’s what we are looking for: slacks (all sizes, all genders), button-up shirts, blouses, business dresses / skirts, blazers, and shoes, too! Please drop off the clothing items at the first or third floor.

Huge thanks to all the parents and students who celebrated us during Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week! We enjoyed breakfast on Monday and lunch on Wednesday, and staff went home on Friday with all the kind notes you’ve written to them bundled in a Jar of Gratitude! POLs and Finals: The end of the semester is fast approaching! POL and Finals Weeks begin on Tuesday, 5/28. Students will have a 2pm dismissal from Tuesday, May 28th until the last day of school, Wednesday, June 5th.

Students will be getting information about end of semester expectations for their classes from their teachers this week if they have not already received the information. For the basics about our signature practice called Presentations of Learning (POLs), please see this deck:  POL Information for DVC Students & Families (May June 2024) 

One of the expectations for a Presentation of Learning (POL) is that students come in professional dress. At DVC, professional dress is defined as including the following:

• HEAD: Hair should not cover the face; no hats
• SHOULDERS: Button-down dress shirt (shirt must be tucked in) or or non-revealing blouse (must cover shoulders); Suit jacket (optional)
• KNEES: Khaki pants or dress pants (no jeans); Dress or skirt that touches tops of knees when standing up straight
• TOES: Closed-toe dress shoes (no sneakers or excessively high heels)

Pathway & Elective Presentations for Class of 2026: We had a terrific Pathway & Elective Presentation for 10th grade students on Friday during seminar! Please see this slide deck for more information regarding each of the course offerings listed below. The Pathway & Elective Preference Form is due on Friday, May 24th. This form can only be accessed and completed by the students through their Da Vinci Schools google account. Please note that we strive to align student interest with class enrollment to the greatest extent possible, but that preferences indicated on the form are not guarantees of course enrollment.

• Electives: Astronomy & Anatomy/Physiology; Spanish 3
• Pathways: Computer Science, Marketing, Media Production, & Multimedia Journalism

Pathway & Math Preferences for Class of 2025: Our current juniors have an opportunity to select their senior year pathway preference and their math course preference for 24-25. Both the Pathway Preference Form and the Math Preference Form are due by Friday, May 24th. These forms can only be accessed and completed by the students through their Da Vinci Schools google account. Please note that we strive to align student interest with class enrollment to the greatest extent possible, but that preferences indicated on the form are not guarantees of course enrollment.

Wolf Pack Leader Application: We are getting ready to welcome next year’s 9th graders (the Class of 2028) and we will be taking them on The Overnighter in August! We need leaders for this special event and we encourage current 10th and 11th graders to apply. Please note that we typically get lots of applications for this signature practice and regrettably we won’t be able to accept all who apply. There is a mandatory training for all selected leaders during the week of August 12th. Peer Mentors Application: Another great leadership opportunity at DVC – apply to be a Peer Mentor! We celebrated our Class of 2024 with our College and Career Signing Day! All our seniors were congratulated on their next steps (college, career, military, or gap year) and we are very proud of them. Staff & Teacher Appreciation Week starts on Monday! Special thanks to the parents who are volunteering to help this week (and who have been coordinating the effort), and thank you to everyone who donated to the cause. If you haven’t had a chance to write any notes of appreciation to staff members, please WRITE NOTES HERE – it’s free and easy and so appreciated!
