Week 13
In just a few weeks, we will be going on Thanksgiving break! It’s been a fast-paced November so far, and last week was a major milestone for our seniors: at our “Press Submit” event, seniors pressed submit on many of their applications in a ceremony hosted by our counseling team and DJ Mr. Jackson – see pics below! We are also extremely excited for our Fall Exhibition next week, on November 19th. Students are getting their presentations ready and can’t wait to show you what they have learned.
Exhibition
We are excited for our annual Fall Exhibition night on Wednesday, November 19th! This is our opportunity to show the wider community the projects and learning that we have done so far. We invite all families, friends, and community members to join us on Wednesday, 11/19 from 5:30 – 7:00pm for our best night of the year. All DVC students are required to attend, and all grade levels will have projects on display.
Gratitude Baskets
As we approach the season of Thanksgiving, we are all grateful for the tremendous work of our school staff – from our teachers to counselors to paraeducators to custodians to front office staff. To show our appreciation, we are organizing baskets of gratitude to deliver to our school staff on Friday, 11/21. The idea is that each staff member will receive one basket containing things they like and words of appreciation from students and parents/guardians. We will collect donations in the 1st floor reception area beginning on Tuesday, 11/4. Additionally, we will have a designated place to drop off contributions during Exhibition Night on Wednesday, 11/19.
Here is how you can contribute to the gratitude baskets:
- Donations: If you are interested and able to purchase something to show your appreciation, please consider one of the following options.
- General Donations: Please consider non-perishable items such as individually wrapped popcorn, gummies, trail mix, chips, hot chocolate, pretzels, candy, cookies, coffee, sparkling water, tea, any other non-perishable snacks, and gift cards ($5) to Target or Starbucks.
- Staff-Specific Donations: Please use this list of DVC staff’s favorite things: DVC Staff Favorite Things (November 2025) to send items specific to staff members. Please label the donations with the name of the staff member.
- Drop-Off Period: Tuesday, November 4th – Thursday, November 20th
- Words of Appreciation: There is nothing that means more to school staff than words of appreciation or encouragement. Please consider handwriting a note of thanks or typing one digitally here: DVC Staff Appreciation Notes We will be printing these digital messages and including all words of appreciation in the baskets. Handwritten notes can be dropped off beginning on Tuesday, 11/4.
Here are some ways you can help with assembly of the baskets:
- Putting Together the Baskets: If you are interested in helping us assemble these baskets on Friday, 11/21 during the school day, we would be very grateful. The assembly sign up is here: Basket Assembly on Friday, 11/21
NHS Canned Food Drive @ Exhibition
The National Honor Society is conducting a food drive for those in need this holiday season, and there is a donation station in the “Wolves’ Den” area near the DVC front offices. Please consider donating a nonperishable item, if you are able, to this drive. We will have a bin at Exhibition for these items.
CLD
We have an upcoming Community Learning Day (CLD) on Monday, November 10th. All students should have received an email to sign-up through the 11/10 CLD Workshop Request Form. Students may choose to learn from home or attend an on campus workshop. Here are the 11/10 CLD Workshop Descriptions.
Progress Reports
The end of the semester is fast approaching, and the grades students earn in December will be the grades that appear on students’ high school transcript. Progress reports are being mailed home on Monday, 11/10. The purpose of progress reports is to give families a snapshot of student course grades, and to be the starting point for a conversation at home about how to stay successful in school in these final weeks of the semester. Please follow up with your student’s teachers directly with any questions about assignments or grades.
