Week 20 Updates for Families

Week 20

Last week’s CD was full of celebration and honoring student achievement!  We recognized students who made the honor roll (GPA of 3.3-3.59), high honor roll (3.6-3.99), and distinguished honor roll (4.0 and above).  Grade level teams also honored students for Resiliency, Most Improved, Positivity, Collaboration, and POL Superstars (posted below)!

Da Vinci Schools Surveys: We value your voice and input. Parents/guardians and students, you should have received an email from Kelvin Education in November with a survey link to provide feedback. Please look in your inbox for “Kelvin Education” to complete the survey. Thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback. The feedback window closes this month.

 

Semester 2 Seminars: Students will be given the opportunity to choose new seminars this semester.  They can do so at this link: https://forms.gle/EzF25ofMPcJNdJTX6 

 

We are also implementing new intervention seminars this semester: Math Intervention for students who need additional support in Math content and Senior Seminar for students who need support in meeting the conditions of the Senior Contract (Passing all required courses, and 90%+ attendance and tardies).

Week 19 Updates

Week 19

No School on Monday, January 19th: there is no school on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  We celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and his vision of equality, justice, and peace, and strive to live out these ideals at DVC.

 

Awards CD:  Students will be recognized for their academic achievement, as well as for grade-level awards from first semester at Thursday’s CD!

Spring 2026 Da Vinci/El Camino Course Offerings

Good afternoon DVC students and parents,

Happy new year and welcome back! This spring semester, Da Vinci Schools is offering 4 dual enrollment partnership courses with El Camino College and will start on February 16th, 2026. HDEV 110, FILM 110, COMS 100 are open to 9th-12th grade students, while ENG C1000 is only open to 12th grade students.

Da Vinci Schools will be assisting with sign-ups by hosting an application workshop in the RWL Center computer lab this Thursday, January 15th from 3:00pm-5:00 pm. Students should know their SSN# (if they have one) and whether or not their family is considered a military family when they come.

If interested in signing up for the following classes, you can attend the application workshop OR schedule an appointment with Ms. Aldrete via Calendly before Thursday, February 5th in order to submit the Spring 2026 application on time:

To be eligible to take a dual enrollment class, the student will need to be passing all their academic classes and have no credit recovery for a-g classes. Space is limited and we are accepting forms on a first come first serve basis!

Welcome Back to Semester 2! (Week 18 Updates)

Welcome back, families!  We are so excited to start Semester 2 with all of you.  We hope that you had a restful holiday break with your families.  The DVC staff has been hard at work preparing for the new semester, and we can’t wait to welcome our students back!

Semester 1 Report Cards: Report cards were mailed out the first week of January.  Please contact Jackie Martinez (jmartinez@davincischools.org) if you have any questions or concerns about receipt of these report cards.  PowerSchool access has been reenabled for all students and families.

 

Grade Appeals: If you have questions about final grades, please reach out to teachers directly via email when school resumes. Grade appeals must be initiated via email within 30 days of the end of the semester. For more information about final grades, see the DVC Student and Family Handbook.

Week 17 Updates for Families

It’s here – the final week of Semester 1!  We have been so impressed by our students as they started their POLs last week, and we know that there are more strong presentations to come this week.  POLs and Finals continue this week, with early dismissal from Mon-Thurs at 2:00pm.  A reminder that Friday, 12/19, is a Professional Development Day (no students).

 

PowerSchool Access & Report Cards

PowerSchool access has been disabled as teachers finalize grades. We will be mailing end-of-semester report cards in the new year (January 2026), but we will restore PowerSchool access for families during the winter break. 

 

DVC Front Office

Our school office will be closed for break from Friday, 12/19 through Friday, 1/2. Our office opens again on Monday, 1/5, and school starts for students again on Monday, 1/12. 

 

Presentations of Learning Continue This Week

School dismissal for POL days is 2:00pm (12/11-12/18). POLs help students improve communication and public speaking skills and empower students to take ownership of their learning. The most important things you can do to help your student prepare for their POLs are (1) assure them that it is ok to make mistakes, (2) have them practice their POLs many times to as many people in your household as possible, and (3) help them prepare their professional dress. 

One of the expectations for a Presentation of Learning (POL) is that students come in professional dress. At DVC, professional dress is defined as including the following:

  • HEAD: Hair should not cover the face; no hats
  • SHOULDERS: Button-down dress shirt (shirt must be tucked in) or or non-revealing blouse (must cover shoulders); Suit jacket (optional)
  • KNEES: Khaki pants or dress pants (no jeans); Dress or skirt that touches tops of knees when standing up straight
  • TOES: Closed-toe dress shoes (no sneakers or excessively high heels)

 

Substance Abuse Webinar

Join Da Vinci Schools and our health partners for an important conversation on teen vaping and cannabis use, and how it impacts youth and families, as well as what you can do to start open and supportive conversations with teens. For info, please see the flyer here.
