Transportation Career Academy Program through Metro

TCAP provides summer internship opportunities to current junior and seniors (class of 2022 and 2023), who depend on transit, reside in LA County, live in close proximity of a Metro rail station and whose schools are located near Metro’s rail expansion efforts. This program offers students an opportunity to learn about careers in transportation and how to apply classroom theories and concepts to “real-world” work situations at one of the nation’s largest public transportation agencies.

Skills You’ll Learn

· The opportunity to explore careers in transportation
· A chance to apply knowledge from high school coursework to real-world work experience
· Get on-the-job work experience in a specific career pathway or in a specific technical area
· Build a professional relationship with a mentor
· Learn about Metro’s innovative approach to promoting transportation and safety education programs

Boeing Summer Internships

This summer, go beyond classroom learning by interning at Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company. As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience, learn from experts, and collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things.

Interested students must be in their junior year right now and going into their senior year in the fall. They must be 16 years old and a US Citizen by the program start date of June 20th.

To learn more, students and parents must attend one of the following mandatory information sessions.

Fired Up! Girls Empowerment Camp

The El Segundo Fire and Community Services Departments have teamed up to offer this empowering and educational experience for girls within the local community. The “Fired Up!” Girls’ Empowerment Camp will be held on March 26th– 27th and will give girls the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real firefighting gear, as they learn what it’s like to be a firefighter.

This two-day camp is open for girls aged 12-19 and is FREE for all attendees.

El Segundo residents can register for the camp beginning Tuesday, March 1st, by visiting esrec.org and clicking on the “Camps” tab. Non-resident registration opens on Tuesday, March 8th.

Week 26 Schedule: Student-Led Conferences Begin Monday!

Student-Led Conferences start on Monday!  Conferences will be virtual (via Zoom) from Monday, 3/7 through Thursday, 3/10. Conferences will be scheduled with your student’s advisory teacher. Students will be able to access the sign up link for their advisory teacher via google classroom. Students are expected to prepare a presentation about their current academic progress, and a parent/guardian of the student is expected to attend the conference. Please note that students will be dismissed at 1:25pm each day, and there is no school on Friday, 3/11.

We are so proud of our DVC students from the Marketing Pathway who participated in the 2022 DECA State Career Development Conference this past weekend in Anaheim! Our chapter competed against thousands of DECA members across California, including high schools that have far bigger chapters and CTE programs than we do. Listed below are students who were finalists in the competition. Congratulations to DVC DECA!

  • Jahari Crawford – 2nd place in Role Play 1, Sports and Entertainment Marketing Individual Series Event

  • Alvin Liu and Jalen Coleman – Finalists for Integrated Marketing Campaign – Service (Presentation)

Zeta Phi Beta National Education Foundation Scholarships (Seniors)

What is ZNEF?

The mission of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.’s National Educational Foundation is to support higher education achievement through scholarships and conduct community education programs and related research to improve individual and community living standards. The Foundation annually provides financial assistance to worthy students pursuing higher education both at the Undergraduate and Graduate levels.

How do I use this portal?

Want to apply for a scholarship offered by the Zeta National Educational Foundation? Every scholarship has requirements that applicants must meet. This site provides you with access to 15 scholarships that have a range of award values, including the $100,000 Founders’ Centennial Scholarship! Take the eligibility quiz to be matched with scholarships.

Visit the Scholarship Programs page to learn more about each scholarship opportunity.

Register for portal access, then take the Eligibility Quiz to be matched with scholarships. Upon completion of the Eligibility Quiz, if you qualify, you will receive a prompt to select up to 3 of the 13 ZNEF Scholarships (not including ZOL or Life Members). Completing one ZNEF application will populate all three of your ZNEF scholarship information pages (There may be additional information needed for each, however). You may also qualify for additional scholarships from ZOL or Life Members, if eligibility criteria is met.
