Happy Sunday, DVC Families! We have a great week ahead of us with several opportunities for parents/guardians to get involved with our school, from our Parent Advisory Committee meeting tomorrow at 4:30pm to our Financial Aid Night for families of seniors on Tuesday. Please see details about these events and some other upcoming events below.

Parent Advisory Committee: All are welcome to attend our Parent Advisory Committee on Monday, 1/29 at 4:30pm in person (1st floor, Mona Lisa Room) or via this zoom link. Please see below for the agenda:

Seminars: If a student would like to request a seminar change, they will have until Monday, January 29th at 11:59pm to do so via the Schedule Change Request Form (linked here). Please note that students must attend the seminars they are enrolled in until they receive a new schedule from their counselor that informs them of a schedule change. Schedules will be changed throughout the week, and all schedule changes will be completed by Wednesday, February 7th.

Da Vinci Schools Financial Aid Night: DV counselors are hosting a hands on FAFSA/Dream Act workshop on the 201 campus, where an El Camino College financial aid rep will be here to answer your financial aid/FAFSA/CA Dream Act questions, help you fill out the applications, and submit that night! This is taking place on the DVS floor on Tuesday January 30th, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Please RSVP HERE so we know how many computers will be needed.*

Blood Drive: On Monday, February 12th, the DVC National Honor Society is proud to pay it forward and strengthen our community by helping to save lives. We are partnering with the American Red Cross to hold a blood drive, and we need your help to make it a success. We invite you to join us. Week 20 Reflection & Coffee with the Principals

Dear DVC Families,

I write to you this evening to thank you for your continued support through last week, which was a difficult time for our entire school community. We want you to know that we are committed to ensuring that DVC remains a positive and inclusive place for all students and staff as we cherish the beauty of our school’s diversity.

In order to continue to work in partnership with our families, we will be starting “Coffee with the Principals” this semester, and we will hold this session both in person and on zoom on the first Monday of each month. This will be a chance for school leadership to share brief school updates and hold space for parents and guardians to ask questions and share feedback. All meetings will occur twice, once in-person at DVC at 9am (coffee provided) and once virtually via zoom (link here) at 4pm (make your own coffee). The dates are as follows:

  • Monday, February 5th
  • Monday, March 4th
  • Monday, April 8th 
  • Monday, May 6th

We look forward to our continued partnership in service to the students of DVC,

Week 20 Schedule

Our first week back ended in recognition of over 235 DVC students! Students were celebrated for making the Honor Roll (3.5 – 3.9 GPA) or High Honor Roll (4.0+ GPA) for Semester 1. Honor Roll certificates will be distributed during Advisory on Monday. DVC staff also gave out End-of-Semester Awards such as the Resilience Award, the Positivity Award, and the POL All-Star Award. Congratulations to all students who were recognized for their hard work and achievement!

Seminars: This week we resume our seminar program on Monday, 1/22 with a slight change in our seminar day pairings. Students will have one seminar that meets on Mondays and Fridays, and another seminar that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As always, we do our best to enroll students in seminars that align with their preferences. Students will receive a schedule with their seminar enrollments on Monday, 1/22 during Period 5. If a student would like to request a seminar change, they will have until Monday, January 29th at 11:59pm to do so via the Schedule Change Request Form (which is linked here, but not yet open). Please note that students must attend the seminars they are enrolled in until they receive a new schedule from their counselor that informs them of a schedule change. 

CHYA Presentations: Dr. Green and Nurse Lucero will be presenting the health & sexual education curriculum (“CHYA” or “California Healthy Youth Act”) to 9th graders starting on Monday, 1/22. Click this link to read the notification letter from Dr. Green. If you have any questions about the content that will be covered, please email Dr. Green at egreen@davincischools.org. Parents have the right to opt-out of this presentation for their child; if you wish to do so, please email Erin D’Souza, Principal at edsouza@davincischools.org.

Week 19 Schedule: Semester 2 Begins Tuesday!

Happy New Year, DVC Families,

We hope that your break was rejuvenating! We are excited to welcome our students back to campus on Tuesday, January 16th; classes begin at 8:30am. On Monday, there is no school in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day – a day when we honor the contributions of Dr. King and celebrate his legacy. 

Report Cards: We mailed report cards last week. If you didn’t receive one in the mail, please let Jackie Martinez (Office Manager) know. You can email her at jmartinez@davincischools.org or call the front office at (310) 725-5800. Included in report cards were NWEA MAP Test Results from earlier in the semester, PowerSchool login information, and a Semester 2 calendar.

Wednesday Snacks for DVC Staff: Thank you to the families who brought us snacks on Wednesdays! Over 30 families treated us to a surprise snack each week at the start of our collaboration time on Wednesdays. We enjoyed veggies and hummus, chips and dips, fruit, charcuterie boards, noodle dishes, granola bars, sparkling water, cakes, and cookies!  If you are willing and able to help during Semester 2, please sign up here: Wednesday Snack Sign Up. We ask you to bring enough snacks for about 20 people, and we ask for 2 parents/guardians for each Wednesday. The hope is that there is enough to give about 40 people a snack or treat each week. If you plan to bring snacks for 40, please sign up for both slots. If you have questions, feel free to email Jackie Martinez at jmartinez@davincischools.org. Thank you for your generosity!

Week 18 Schedule

This is our final week of Semester 1! The last day of school before winter break is Thursday, 12/21. School dismissal is at 2pm every day of this week. 

We have continued to be impressed by our students and how well they are doing with their Presentations of Learning (POLs) and finals! Good luck to all as we finish these final four days.

PowerSchool Access & Report Cards: Please note that PowerSchool access has been disabled as teachers finalize grades. We will be mailing end-of-semester report cards in the new year (January 2024), but we will restore PowerSchool access for families during the winter break so that all families can be informed about students’ final grades for the semester prior to the mailing. 

DVC Front Office: Our school office will be closed for break from Friday, December 22nd through Monday, January 8th. Our office opens again on Tuesday, January 9th, and school starts for students again on Tuesday, January 16th.
