Spring Dance Rescheduled for Friday, 2/23

Dear DVC Community, 

Due to poor weather conditions forecasted this week, we regret to inform you that the Spring Dance, scheduled for 2/9/24, is rescheduled for Friday, 2/23/24. The safety and well-being of our students are of paramount importance, and after careful consideration, we believe it is in the best interest of all attendees to reschedule the event.

We will keep you updated on the new schedule via email, school announcements, and our official social media channels. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility in this matter.

The dance has been rescheduled for Friday, 2/23/24. For all individuals who have already purchased tickets, your tickets will be valid for this new date. If you have questions or concerns with this update, please reach out to Donald Puathasnanon (dpuathasnanon@davincischools.org – DVC’s Leadership Advisor) for further instructions. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to ensure a smooth process for all ticket holders.

Week 22 Schedule

We are excited to be celebrating the start of Black History Month at DVC! Students and staff representatives from our Black Student Union (BSU, a student club and seminar) have already begun decorating our campus. BSU is busy planning and preparing for our Black History CD, scheduled for Thursday, 2/23, and we are looking forward to learning about Black culture in the upcoming weeks during advisory!

No School on Friday, 2/9: Please note that there is no school on Friday, 2/9 due to Professional Development, but there is a Semi-formal Dance on campus from 6pm – 9pm that evening.

National School Counseling Week: This week is National School Counseling Week! We are happy to celebrate the great work of our counseling team. Please take a moment to send them an email with your gratitude during this special week!

Coffee with the Principals: Parents & guardians, please join us on Monday during our first edition of “Coffee with the Principals” where you’ll hear school leadership share brief school updates and hold space for parents and guardians to ask questions and share feedback. The meeting will occur twice, once in-person at DVC at 9am (coffee provided) and once virtually via zoom (link here) at 4pm (make your own coffee). 

Black College Expo: The Black College Expo is coming to LA! DVC is providing tickets for the first 40 students interested in attending the Black College Expo. Please note that transportation will NOT be provided this year. Seniors, make sure you print out your transcripts as schools have on-site acceptances with scholarships! All students in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend. Please complete the google form below if you are interested in attending the Black College Expo and would like to request a ticket. Blood Drive: On Monday, February 12th, the DVC National Honor Society is proud to pay it forward and strengthen our community by helping to save lives. Happy Sunday, DVC Families! We have a great week ahead of us with several opportunities for parents/guardians to get involved with our school, from our Parent Advisory Committee meeting tomorrow at 4:30pm to our Financial Aid Night for families of seniors on Tuesday. Please see details about these events and some other upcoming events below.

Parent Advisory Committee: All are welcome to attend our Parent Advisory Committee on Monday, 1/29 at 4:30pm in person (1st floor, Mona Lisa Room) or via this zoom link. Please see below for the agenda:

Seminars: If a student would like to request a seminar change, they will have until Monday, January 29th at 11:59pm to do so via the Schedule Change Request Form (linked here). Please note that students must attend the seminars they are enrolled in until they receive a new schedule from their counselor that informs them of a schedule change. Schedules will be changed throughout the week, and all schedule changes will be completed by Wednesday, February 7th.

Da Vinci Schools Financial Aid Night: DV counselors are hosting a hands on FAFSA/Dream Act workshop on the 201 campus, where an El Camino College financial aid rep will be here to answer your financial aid/FAFSA/CA Dream Act questions, help you fill out the applications, and submit that night! This is taking place on the DVS floor on Tuesday January 30th, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Please RSVP HERE so we know how many computers will be needed.*

Week 20 Reflection & Coffee with the Principals

Dear DVC Families,

I write to you this evening to thank you for your continued support through last week, which was a difficult time for our entire school community. We want you to know that we are committed to ensuring that DVC remains a positive and inclusive place for all students and staff as we cherish the beauty of our school’s diversity.

In order to continue to work in partnership with our families, we will be starting “Coffee with the Principals” this semester, and we will hold this session both in person and on zoom on the first Monday of each month. This will be a chance for school leadership to share brief school updates and hold space for parents and guardians to ask questions and share feedback. All meetings will occur twice, once in-person at DVC at 9am (coffee provided) and once virtually via zoom (link here) at 4pm (make your own coffee). The dates are as follows:

  • Monday, March 4th
  • Monday, April 8th 
  • Monday, May 6th

Week 20 Schedule

Our first week back ended in recognition of over 235 DVC students! Students were celebrated for making the Honor Roll (3.5 – 3.9 GPA) or High Honor Roll (4.0+ GPA) for Semester 1. Honor Roll certificates will be distributed during Advisory on Monday. DVC staff also gave out End-of-Semester Awards such as the Resilience Award, the Positivity Award, and the POL All-Star Award. Congratulations to all students who were recognized for their hard work and achievement!

Seminars: This week we resume our seminar program on Monday, 1/22 with a slight change in our seminar day pairings. Students will have one seminar that meets on Mondays and Fridays, and another seminar that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As always, we do our best to enroll students in seminars that align with their preferences. Students will receive a schedule with their seminar enrollments on Monday, 1/22 during Period 5. If a student would like to request a seminar change, they will have until Monday, January 29th at 11:59pm to do so via the Schedule Change Request Form (which is linked here, but not yet open). Please note that students must attend the seminars they are enrolled in until they receive a new schedule from their counselor that informs them of a schedule change. 

CHYA Presentations: Dr. Green and Nurse Lucero will be presenting the health & sexual education curriculum (“CHYA” or “California Healthy Youth Act”) to 9th graders starting on Monday, 1/22. Parents have the right to opt-out of this presentation for their child; if you wish to do so, please email Erin D’Souza, Principal at edsouza@davincischools.org.
