Happy Saturday, DVC Families,

We had another week of engaging learning all over campus! Some highlights included the outdoor lab in Mr. Einstein’s 9th grade Physics class and the gallery walk in Mr. Watson’s Graphic Communications class. We also got everything set up for FLEX Block, a new structure to help students get the support or enrichment they need in order to thrive in their classes. We are excited that Week 5 begins our official launch of FLEX Block!

Please note that students do not have school on Friday, September 17th due to professional development for staff. During our professional development time, the staff will be focusing on creating visual supports to be displayed on our classroom walls. 

A few updates:

School Site Council: The results are in! Parents and guardians have voted and selected the following parents to represent DVC on the School Site Council for the 2021-2022 school year: Arleen Romero, Liza Somilleda, and Desiree Saddler. Our first meeting will be on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 4:30pm via zoom (link here). All are welcome to attend the meeting, and the first five minutes of the meeting are reserved for public comment.

Supplies & “Homebooks”: We know that many of you have been patiently waiting for school supplies to arrive as well as “homebooks” (i.e. a chromebook for home use) to be distributed. We are pleased to announce that all school supplies have arrived and we have begun distributing those to students who have requested them. We also just received a new shipment of chromebooks, so this will enable us to issue “homebooks” to students this week and next. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we were dealing with shipping delays.

Club Fair: We are excited to host our annual club fair on Thursday, 9/16 during Tuesday/Thursday seminar. All club leaders will be notified next week of their club’s status so they can prepare for the upcoming fair. Please encourage your students to sign up for at least one club at DVC! It’s a great way to get involved and make new friends.

National Hispanic Heritage Month: We are excited to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month starting on Wednesday, September 15th!

If you are interested in joining the DVC School Site Council, please fill out this School Site Council Parent interest form no later than 11:59pm this evening: School Site Council Interest Form  All submissions will be added to a voting form that will go out to the DVC parent community on September 8th (tomorrow). School Site Council members will be notified on Friday, September 10th.

What an exciting week! Seminars started on Wednesday and Thursday, and we enjoyed welcoming families to campus for Back to School Night! A few updates:

School Site Council: The School Site Council is an opportunity for parents, students, & staff to work collaboratively to review the school program, review data and identify needs, and make recommendations for the Local Control and Accountability Plan. If you are interested in joining the DVC School Site Council please fill out this School Site Council Parent interest form before Wednesday, 9/8: School Site Council Interest Form All submissions will be added to a voting form that will go out to the DVC parent community on September 8th. Seminars: We will do our best to accommodate student requests to make changes to their assigned seminar classes. Students should log into their davincischools google account to complete this form if they would like to request a change to their seminar: Seminar Change Request Form

Chromebooks: We continue to work to be able to provide chromebooks for student use at home to those families in need. If you have already completed this request and have yet to receive a chromebook for home use, please know that we have your request and we will issue the chromebooks as soon as we have them available. Suicide Prevention Week: Suicide Prevention Week (September 5-11, 2021) and World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10, 2021) is a time when individuals and organizations around the country and the world join their voices to broadcast the message that everyone can play a role in suicide prevention and to remember loved ones lost to suicide. We hope you will join us by participating in the Suicide Prevention Week Challenge.

No School Monday: There is no school on Monday in observance of Labor Day. We will see our students back at school on Tuesday, 9/8 at 8:30am. Please see the weekly schedule on this post and also at tinyurl.com/dvcwebsite.

We had a great week on campus, and here’s a few notes about what’s to come in Week 3:

Back to School Night: Back to School Night is coming up next week on Wednesday, September 1st! We will begin at 5:30pm with a meeting in the West Plaza (Back Yard) under the white canopies / tents. We look forward to getting a chance to connect with our families, both new and old! If you have already pre-registered to receive a chromebook for home use (i.e. a “homebook”), please plan to pick it up when you come to Back to School Night. Seminars: We call the elective classes at the end of the day our “seminars.” Most students already selected their preferences during school on Thursday. You can find the seminar offerings here. Seminars begin on Wednesday, September 1st.
