Exhibition Night is Wednesday, 3/29!

Week 28 Schedule

We loved seeing our families on campus and on zoom during our Student-Led Conferences! Thank you for taking the time to connect with us. We are looking forward to seeing our families back again for Exhibition Night on Wednesday, March 29 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.

  • Da Vinci Schools CARnival: Da Vinci Schools will be hosting our 2nd annual CARnival on Saturday, March 25th from 10am-5pm! This fun day of games, food, entertainment, and cars is an important fundraiser that supports student activities and is open to the community! Please join us and invite your friends and family!   • Exhibition Night: Mark your calendars! Our spring Exhibition Night is scheduled for Wednesday, March 29th from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. All students are expected to attend and our 9th and 11th grade students will be exhibiting their work. Please invite friends and family to this special event that is open to our entire community.

 

  • State Testing: Our 11th grade students begin state testing this week. The testing will be done during their classes, with minimal disruption to the daily schedule. These are the weeks for the 11th grade state testing:
    • California English-Language Arts Test: Week of 3/20 during English classes
    • California Science Test: Week of 4/17 during Biology classes
    • California Math Test: Week of 5/1 during US History classes

 

  • Pathway & Elective Presentations for 10th Grade: On Tuesday, 3/21 during seminar, we will be showcasing our terrific pathway and elective offerings to our 10th grade students (and 9th graders currently enrolled in Graphic Communications). We are happy to be able to offer a variety of terrific electives and pathways at DVC for students who have completed Graphic Communications. We plan to offer the following courses for the 23-24 school year:
    • Electives: Ethnic Studies, Astronomy & Anatomy/Physiology, & Spanish 3
    • Pathways:Computer Science, Marketing, Media Production, & Multimedia Journalism

 

  • Senior Activities: We are excited to celebrate the Class of 2023 in their final semester at DVC! Please click on this link for more information regarding Prom and Grad Night for the Class of 2023. Tickets can be purchased on MySchoolBucks.

  • Monday, 3/20: CAASPP English Language Arts Testing Begins (11th grade)
  • Tuesday, 3/21: Pathway & Elective Presentation to 10th Grade
  • Wednesday, 3/22: Marketing 1 Field Trip to Westwood / UCLA
  • Saturday, 3/25: CARnival Event (fundraiser and community event hosted by Da Vinci Schools)
  • Tuesday, 3/28: Credit Recovery Meeting (9th Grade)
  • Wednesday, 3/29: Exhibition Night (9th & 11th grades showcasing; all students expected to attend)
  • Friday, 3/31: No School – Cesar Chavez Day
  • Monday, 4/3 – Friday, 4/7: No School – Spring Break
  • Thursday, 6/8: DVC Class of 2023 Graduation (1pm start time)

Opportunity for Young BIPOC Musicians

The Rise Diversity Project aims to diversify the world of film and studio recordings by assembling an orchestra of young, BIPOC musicians from all across Los Angeles. The young musicians will work side-by-side with professional studio musicians and perform and record in a world-class recording studio. Students can apply by clicking here.

Announcements From Real World Learning Director (3.16.2023)

For students interested in animation, art, and game development:

Noggin Nickelodeon is looking for 18-24 year-olds who are interested in gaining work experience and looking for a career pathway in animation, art, game development, etc. As you can see on this flyer, there is no experience necessary to be part of this awesome opportunity. Youth will be coached and mentored by Noggin’s Award-winning industry experts. To learn more, click here. 

For students interested in entrepreneurship:

iDEAS by Youth Entrepreneurship Competition: Offered by Dignity of Children, this competition is a complimentary 8-week program that will teach high school students how to build a business, create a prototype and present it to a panel of experts in a shark-tank format for a chance to win a cash prize (to launch their business) and a 3-month business mentorship to take their idea to the next level. The program is designed to empower young people to solve important problems such as poverty, injustice, health crisis, and climate change. The deadline is March 27th, 2023. Apply here.

Career Pathways Summer Course Opportunities @ El Camino College Summer 2023

Summer courses at El Camino College are an excellent way to learn more about your career pathway(s) of interest!  ECC Summer classes run from June 19-August 10.

We encourage you to consider registering for any of these you find interesting, regardless of which school you attend or which pathway you are currently in. More information about class meeting days and times can be found here (Select “summer” for the term)→ 

The classes listed below are an opportunity for you to learn more about your particular area(s) of interest and will be valuable additions to your resume and college applications, but they are not transferable for high school graduation credit and will not go on your Da Vinci transcript.

Step 1: Apply to El Camino College

Never applied?

  • Submit an application for admission for Summer 2023: www.elcamino.edu/apply
  • Students can follow along screen-by-screen with this link: Help to Complete the Application for Admission
  • After submitting, you will receive your Welcome Email (with 7-digit El Camino College ID #) in 1-3 business days at the personal email address given on your application.
    • §  If you do not receive your Welcome Email after 3 business days, please email: dualenrollment@elcamino.edu

Previously applied?

  • Your El Camino student account is still in good standing if you submitted an application for admission for Spring 2023 or Winter 2023
  • Your El Camino College ID # is the same as previous terms and is 7-digits (no letters)
  • If you do not know your El Camino College ID #, please email: dualenrollment@elcamino.edu

Step 2: Complete the Dual Enrollment Application

Once you apply to ECC and receive your ECC ID, you must complete a Dual Enrollment Application.

  • Students must submit a completed Dual Enrollment Application for each term they wish to registered for. Once the student and parents complete the Dual Enrollment Form, please contact your counselor  to obtain their signature in Section III of the Form
  • Next, email the completed Dual Enrollment Form, with signatures from student, parent and counselor to:  dualenrollment@elcamino.edu

 Step3: Check for prerequisites

 Some courses have prerequisites which students must clear before they can register: List of courses with a prerequisite.

 Step 4: Enroll in course

After Steps 1-3 are completed, you are ready to register for classes online using MyECC!

  • Students can register anytime on or after your Registration Appointment for the term
  • Students can register for any class section of the course(s) listed on your Dual Enrollment Application form
  • Here is a guide to help you search for classes and register for classes
