ESMoA High School Art Competition- Now Open for Submissions!

Are you a high school student who loves creating art? Whether you paint, draw, print, or mix it all together, this is your chance to be seen. ESMoA is calling all student artists in grades 9 through 12 across Los Angeles County to submit original, wall-based artwork for our juried exhibition, Time of Growth.

This three-day student exhibition will take place September 11 through 13, 2025, in conjunction with the final days of Experience 61: GROW, our current exhibition featuring over 60 professional works. Twenty to thirty student artworks will be displayed, and the top three winners in each category will be announced at the Open House and Awards Celebration on Saturday, September 13.

Submission Deadline: Sunday, August 31st at 11:59 PM
Exhibition Dates: September 11 – 13, 2025 at ESMoA in Lawndale

About the Competition:

Students are invited to submit one original, wall-based artwork in one of four categories: Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, or Printmaking.

This year’s theme, Time of Growth, invites reflection on transformation – personal, emotional, cultural, or environmental.

A panel of jurors will select 20 – 30 standout works to be exhibited at ESMoA, in conjunction with the final days of Experience 61: GROW, our current exhibition featuring over 60 professional works. Top three winners in each category will be announced at the Open House and Awards Celebration on Saturday, September 13.

Who Can Apply:

Students currently in grades 9 – 12

4th Annual Mental Health Summit- 7/31 & 8/1

Transformational Family Counseling is hosting a two-day Mental Health Summit event on Thursday, July 31st from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and Friday, August 1stfrom 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. Both days will include a meal, a keynote speaker, and various workshops and seminars, led by national, state and local experts in the areas of youth mental health.

Session Topics will include Suicide Prevention, Emotional Intelligence, Trauma Informed Care, Bullying Prevention, Resiliency, and more!

The goals of the Summit are to increase mental health literacy among our youth, to reduce the stigma associated with mental health disorders in our community and to strengthen community response to youth development through awareness, knowledge, connectivity and access.

Goodie bags provided for each participant! Spots will go fast!

Schedule:

July 31st & August 1st 2025 (Thursday and Friday), 10:00AM to 2:00PM PACIFIC TIME ZONE

Location this year will be at Riverside City College. Details will be sent following calendar invite.

(Juniors) Empowerment Through Education Program Opportunity at UCSB- Transportation Provided!

Hello Juniors,

DVC will be participating in this year’s Empowerment Through Education program at UCSB, an initiative designed to support Black high school students who are interested in higher education. This opportunity is for Juniors only!

About the Program:

Date: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 (must be cleared by 11th grade teachers to attend)
Location: University of California, Santa Barbara
Time: Leaving DVC around 5:30 am and coming back to DVC around 7:30 pm.
Who Can Attend: Black high school students, especially those involved in BSU or interested in post-secondary education.

This free program offers students the opportunity to:

Attend workshops on college admissions, A-G requirements, and financial aid
Engage with Black student leaders, faculty, and campus organizations
Participate in a student panel, networking sessions, and interactive activities
Tour UCSB and learn more about the Black student experience on campus

allcove Beach Cities Leadership & Wellness Conference- Sat. 5/31

Join young leaders from more than 30 organizations across the South Bay to connect, collaborate and uplift our voices together at our annual South Bay Leadership & Wellness Conference. This event will include conversations about advocacy, mental health, wellness and important topics facing our generation today.

You’ll also have the opportunity to share these priorities with local, state and federal leaders who will join us to kick off the event.

Picture this: young people sharing their concerns, their priorities and the ways we want to care for and support one another towards a healthier future. Through workshops and engaging wellness activities, the Conference is an opportunity to develop and expand your leadership skills and gain innovative tools to engage your peers in conversations that matter to them.

For young people ages 12-25. Free food and prizes are included! Plus, get community service hours.
