Dear DVC Families,

We are thrilled to welcome you to DVC for the start of the 2023 – 2024 school year! We look forward to preparing our students for success in college and career in a welcoming, inclusive environment. We can’t wait to meet all of our new students!

The first day of school is Monday, August 14th! School starts at 8:30am and finishes at 3:35pm. Students should report to the gym for the first day of school. Students will learn who their advisory teacher is while they are in the gym. Student schedules will be given out on the first day of school during Advisory.

We are hosting a Welcome Back Webinar on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 @ 6pm.  You can join the webinar using this link: DVC Welcome Back Webinar Link This event is for all DVC families, and it is a virtual event. You can expect a general overview of the school year for all grade levels. If you cannot attend the webinar, a link to the recording will be made available.

As we approach the new school year, we ask new and returning families to complete our annual First Day of School Forms on SchoolMint. These forms are critical to ensure that we have your family’s current information on file.

Completing First Day of School Forms will require you to log in to your existing SchoolMint account, review contact information, sign off on annual parent notifications, and then SUBMIT at the end.

It is critical that we have these documents completed prior to your child starting school. Please take some time to complete and submit all forms on SchoolMint, before Tuesday, August 1st 2023 at 11:59PM.

For Returning Students: Once logged in, click the green “Re-Enroll” button underneath your student’s name on the right-hand side. Complete all five sections and click the green “Submit Forms” button at the bottom of the page.

For New Families: Once logged in you will see 2023 First Day of School Forms under your student’s name. Glick on the green “Start” button to complete all three forms and then click the green “Submit Forms” button at the bottom of the page.

This week is the final week of the school year! We are proud of our students and all that they’ve accomplished this academic year, and we are especially proud of our seniors as they prepare for graduation and celebrate their success! School ends at 1:50pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday; Wednesday, 6/7 is the last day of the school year.

Presentations of Learning (POLs): Monday and Tuesday are the final days of Presentations of Learning (POLs). You can read all the schoolwide POL policies HERE. Please see this post for more details about POLS, and use the links below to help your student prepare.

PowerSchool Access: Teachers are busy finalizing grades and inputting assignments this week and next week. As such, PowerSchool access for students and parents is now turned off. Access will be restored once report cards are sent home during the week of Monday, June 12th. Thank you for your understanding!

Summer School: Students who need to recover credits required for graduation are expected to attend summer school. Separate emails have been sent to those who are expected to attend. The dates for these programs are as follows:

Session 1: Tuesday, June 13 – Friday, June 30 (8:30am – 11:30am)

Session 2: Tuesday, July 11 – Thursday, July 27 (8:30am – 11:30am)

DVC Weekly Schedules Year 10 (2022-2023) & DVC Year 10 Planning Calendar (2022-2023)

TurnUp is a 501(c)(3) non-partisan non-profit organization dedicated to increasing youth civic education, empowerment, and engagement. They were recently featured in Forbes as the 2022 standout non-profit organization. 

TurnUp is offering a Youth Activism Remote Internship. The program’s format is tailored to accommodate the ever fluctuating commitments and responsibilities of a student’s lifestyle, our program is fully remote, has rolling admission and has a flexible time frame and schedule. All students have access to grow into more capable and responsible citizens and to develop their professional skills for a successful future. Students join remote teams that are energized by diverse students from around the country who work on amplifying youth civic engagement. Along with our unique curriculum, peer to peer learning and world-renowned speakers deepen their experience.

The program is free and has no costs. Students can count their participation for community service hours and TurnUp is authorized to give out awards and certificates, including The President’s Volunteer Service Award. The internship has also been invaluable for bolstering resumes, widening networking reach, and for earning college letters of recommendation.
