Hey DVC Students!

This upcoming Wednesday, January 18th, let’s go ice skating at the Toyota Sports Center. Head to MySchoolBucks to get a ticket that covers both entry and skate rentals for only $20. You can even buy tickets for friends and family! Get them quick because only 120 tickets are available.

We had a great start to Semester 2 at DVC! One of the highlights of our week was hosting visits by the 8th graders at Dana Middle School. It’s enrollment season and we’re gearing up to welcome another class of DVC students. MLK, Jr. Holiday (No School on Monday, 1/16): Monday is a school holiday held in honor of civil rights champion Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who championed the cause of justice, racial equality, and love between people regardless of the color of their skin. Dr. King’s hope and faith in a society committed to driving out the darkness of injustice and racism in our country with the light of justice and love is one we continue to reflect on, teach, and strive to embody with our students.

Hello DVC Juniors and Seniors,

Da Vinci is offering two dual enrollment courses for Spring 2023:

BUS 101 (formally BUS 25)- Intro To Business (Synchronous Class)

AJ 100- Intro to Administration of Justice (Synchronous Class)

This course is a survey of organization and management factors influencing the establishment, location, and operation of businesses. This course emphasizes the functional area of accounting as well as the legal framework within which business activities are conducted. The course also emphasizes the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM) in a multicultural and globalized environment.   3 units; 2.5 hours lecture Transfer CSU/UC* Mondays & Wednesdays from 3:00pm – 4:15pm Start Date: Monday, February 13th 2023

This course introduces students to the characteristics of the criminal justice system in the United States. Focus is placed on examining crime measurement, theoretical explanations of crime, responses to crime, components of the system, and current challenges to the system. The course examines the evolution of the principles and approaches utilized by the justice system and the evolving forces which have shaped those principles and approaches. Although justice structure and process are examined in a cross context, emphasis is placed on the United States justice system, particularly the structure and function of police, courts, and corrections. Students are introduced to the origins and development of criminal law, legal process, sentencing, and incarceration policies. 3 units; 2.5 hours lecture Transfer CSU/UC* Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:00pm – 4:15pm Start Date: Tuesday, February 14th 2023

Who:   Rising Juniors and Seniors from DVC, DVD, and DVS

What: College courses at Da Vinci, through El Camino College. Courses meet transfer requirements for most Cal State and U.C. campuses, as well as most private colleges and universities.

Why:   Get a start on your college credits! It looks great on your college applications. (Classes do not count towards high school credits)

Cost:   Free! The state of California and Da Vinci Schools pick up the costs, including textbook fees. Donations to help cover the cost of the textbooks from families that can are appreciated.

Where: Classes will be held virtually on the El Camino College student portal.

If you are interested, make sure you apply to El Camino College Fall 2022 term and turn in the attached completed dual enrollment form with your student ID number and/or the application confirmation number to your school counselor by Tuesday, January 24th 2023. To be eligible to take a dual enrollment class, the student will need to pass all their academic classes, have no credit recovery for a-g classes, and be a rising senior or junior student. Space is limited and we are accepting forms on a first come first serve basis!

All students must have applied for admission to El Camino College.

Never applied?

• Submit an application for admission for Spring 2023: elcamino.edu/apply
• Students can follow along screen-by-screen with this link: Help to Complete the Application for Admission
• After submitting, you will receive your Welcome Email (with 7-digit El CaminoCollege ID #) in 1-3 business days at the personal email address given on your application.
  • If you do not receive your Welcome Email after 3 business days, please email dualenrollment@elcamino.edu

Previously applied?

• Your El Camino student account is still in good standing if you submitted an application for admission for Spring 2022 or Fall 2021. You don’t need to reapply if you took courses during the Spring 2022 or Fall 2022 semesters, you’ll just need to submit a dual enrollment form to your counselor.

• Your El Camino College ID # is the same as previous terms and is 7-digits (no letters)

Dual Enrollment Application

All students must submit a separate, completed Dual Enrollment Application for each term they wish to be manually registered for class(es). Students, parents, and authorized high school signers can use Fill & Sign Tools in Adobe Acrobat Reader to fill out the form and draw their signatures:

NOTE: Our Admissions Office cannot accept forms with typed signatures. All signatures need to be drawn using the above methods, either by pen, mouse, or touchscreen. This is the most common reason why a form cannot be processed and students will not be registered.

MyECC

MyECC is El Camino College’s secure online portal where students view their registered classes, grades, unofficial transcripts, etc. Your MyECC username and password are included in your Welcome Email. You will be prompted to create a new password when you log into MyECC for the first time.

NOTE: El Camino College recently updated the Password Requirements for MyECC. Passwords must include at least 10 characters, 1 Capital letter, 1 number (number cannot be at end or beginning of password), and no repeated/consecutive characters. View Complete Password Complexity Requirements

Canvas

Students will have access to Canvas, our online course management system, only after they are manually registered in an online class. You will need to use your MyECC login information to access Canvas.

Dropping a Class

Registered students who wish to drop the class must perform this action themselves in MyECC by the drop deadlines.

Help is Available!

Dual Enrollment offers Drop-In Help via Zoom every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00-5:00 p.m. to assist students one-on-one with questions they may have about their application for admission or Dual Enrollment Application.
