Week 13 Schedule

Our 10th graders visited UC Irvine, University of La Verne, and Cal State Fullerton last Wednesday! Checking out colleges and universities is a part of what we do at DVC to get students thinking about options for life after high school. 

No School on Monday, 11/11 due to Veterans’ Day. We are grateful for those who have served our country!

We’ve completed Community Learning Day #2! Please note that ALL students (whether they spent the day on campus or off campus) must fill out this Community Learning Day Attendance Form to receive attendance credit. This form is only accessible to students through their davinci account. Students who do not fill out the attendance form will be marked absent.

Progress reports were mailed home on Friday. We hope this report serves as a starting point for discussions at home about staying on track for success in these final weeks of the semester. The grades students earn in December will be the ones recorded on their transcripts. The last day to submit any schoolwork is Wednesday, December 11th. The final day of the semester is Thursday, December 19th. If you have any questions about your student’s progress, please contact the teacher directly via email. Join us for Exhibition Night on Wednesday, November 20th! We invite all families, friends, and community members to join us from 5:30 – 7:00pm for our best night of the year! All DVC students are required to attend; students in grades 9 & 11 will have their projects on display. In addition to checking out our awesome student projects, we encourage you to participate in the ways listed below. We hope to see you there!

  • Drop off books for DECA’s Book Drive (Marketing Pathway)
  • Drop off donations for our Canned Food Drive (National Honor Society)
  • Drop off donations for Staff Baskets of Gratitude
  • Go “thrifting” in our Professional Clothing Shop (Let’s Do Business Club)
  • Purchase the 2024-2025 DVC Yearbook

Please complete the Fall Survey found in your email! Your feedback is critical to our continued growth as a school. You should have received an email from a survey app called Kelvin. Please follow the prompt to complete an online survey to share your feedback on Da Vinci Communications. We appreciate your time!

The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is an opportunity for parents, students, & staff to work collaboratively to:

  • review the school program,
  • review data and identify needs, &
  • make recommendations regarding the School Safety Plan & the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).

If you are interested in participating in the Parent Advisory Committee, please complete this interest form. It is important that we have a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) that represents the demographics of our school. Senior Cap & Gown Photos: Last Chance!

Dear Seniors & Families,

November 16th & 17th are your LAST CHANCE for senior portraits! Please sign up here if you have yet to take these important photos: https://book.usesession.com/i/BVNtg0TnF

Details from the photographer are as follows:

We’ll be taking 3 posed photos: two poses inside and one pose outside. All wearing your graduation Cap & Gown.

There is no cost to have your portraits taken for the first time, photos will be available for purchase 6-8 weeks after they’ve been taken. Print prices start at $12. Digital collections start at $42.

There is a $40 sitting fee to retake your senior portraits.

Cap & Gown portraits will be used in the yearbook. Professional dress is strongly encouraged as you will be able to see your clothes under the graduation gown.

Please note: it gets extremely windy in the afternoon. Later appointments will have to be prepared for wind during outdoor photos.

Our Advisory Mascot Parade and all the costumes on Halloween finished off a really fun week at DVC! Thanks to all the students and staff who participated!

Community Learning Day #2: Friday, November 8th is our 2nd CLD! Here is the list of workshops offered on CLD #2. Students submitted their workshop request through this CLD #2 Survey last week. ALL students (whether you are on campus or at home) must fill out this Community Learning Day Attendance Form to receive attendance credit. 

Progress Reports: The end of the semester is fast approaching, and the grades students earn in December will be the grades that appear on students’ high school transcript. Progress reports are being mailed home on Friday, 11/8. The purpose of progress reports is to give families a snapshot of student course grades, and to be the starting point for a conversation at home about how to stay successful in school in these final weeks of the semester. Please follow up with your student’s teachers directly with any questions about assignments or grades.

Fall Survey: Your feedback is critical to our continued growth as a school! Next week, you will receive an email from a survey app called Kelvin. This is not spam! We are excited to celebrate Spirit Week at DVC! The themed days are as follows:

  • Monday, 10/28: Sweater Weather
  • Tuesday, 10/29: Barbie vs. Bratz
  • Wednesday, 10/30: Why is this in my closet?
  • Thursday, 10/31: Halloween
    • Costumes are encouraged; students are not allowed to bring prop weapons, full face masks, or excessive gore/blood. 
    • All costumes must be school appropriate, and students not in costume must adhere to dress code.

No School & Masquerade Ball on Friday, 11/1: Please note that there is no school for students on Friday, 11/1 due to staff professional development. Students – Join us at the Masquerade Ball on Friday, November 1 from 6-9pm (sensory-friendly entry from 5-6pm). Tickets to the Fall Dance are on sale for $25 until Sunday, October 27 ($30 beginning Monday, October 28). Food can be purchased from the on-site Food Trucks. Eye Masks are okay to wear after check in. Note: This event is limited to Da Vinci students only. PSAT & SAT on Wednesday, 10/30: Please be sure that students arrive at school on time (by 8:30am) on Wednesday in order to take the PSAT or SAT.  Students who arrive at school late may not be able to take the test. This test is paid for by the school and free for DVC students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Andrew Daramola at adaramola@davincicshools.org.

Community Learning Day (CLD) on Friday, 11/8: All students are expected to complete THIS CLD SURVEY indicating if they are planning to be on-campus or off-campus for our next Community Learning Day. As a reminder, this form can only be accessed by students through their davincischools account.

This week I’d like to highlight the terrific work of our Multimedia Journalism Pathway! Three cheers for the VP Weekly, which is an entirely student-created broadcast that students watch every Monday during Advisory. You can check out this week’s episode here! We are so proud of you, Journalism Seniors!

October is Bullying Prevention Month, and our Wolf Pack Counselors presented during Advisory classes on Friday. It is extremely important that all students feel safe at DVC. If you or someone you know is experiencing bullying, don’t hesitate to reach out to the school counselor, a Wolf Pack counselor, the principals, or any staff member/adult that you feel comfortable talking to. Incidents can also be reported using this form. Check out these slides for the full presentation!

This week is Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is a way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs and celebrate healthy lifestyle choices and habits. Wolf Pack Counselors will again be presenting during Advisory classes on Monday, and all the resources can be found at this blog post and in these slides. A few events to put on your calendar:

  • Monday, 10/21 from 6:00-7:30pm: From our partners at South Bay Families Connected, in person at Manhattan Beach Middle School What I Wish My Parents Knew: Dangers of Youth Substance Use and Fentanyl — Families Connected (southbayfamiliesconnected.org) featuring a film screening and panel discussion from youth around what they wish their parents knew in order to better support our young people.
  • Wednesday, 10/23 from 3:30-6:30pm: Da Vinci Schools is hosting a mobile vaccination clinic for those wanting a free Flu shot, updated COVID booster, or TDAP! Located at 201 N Douglas Street in the Blackbox, walk-ins are welcome! Bring your insurance card and students under 18 can walk in if they have a consent form completed by parent.

PSAT & SAT (Wednesday, 10/30): Students in grades 9-12 will engage in college-prep testing (PSAT & SAT) on Wednesday, 10/30. This means that students will have more time to prepare for these important college-prep assessments. To prepare for the test, all students can use the free resources provided at Khan Academy (Official Digital SAT® Prep | Khan Academy). All students are signed up for the tests. Parents of students in grades 9, 10, or 11 who have concerns about their student and taking this test should contact Mr. Andrew Daramola, Assistant Principal, at adaramola@davincischools.org. Seniors who do not wish to take the SAT based on their post-high school plans should complete this SAT Opt-Out Form. Here is some more information about the tests:

Lockdown Drill: Please note that the lockdown drill originally scheduled for Tuesday, 10/22 will be rescheduled to a different date. There is no lockdown drill at DVC this week.
